Job summary

Canada Packers is seeking an Animal Care Technician at Pro West Pork Nursery in Hartney, MB. This full-time role (40 hours/week) offers a starting wage of $19.00 per hour with rotating shifts, including weekends, holidays, and occasional alarm response.

You will work closely with the Manager to ensure animal health and welfare, perform routine tasks, and contribute to production goals in a safety-first environment.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada at the time of application.
  • Commitment to wearing proper PPE and following safety protocols.
  • Availability for weekend, holiday, and alarm shifts on a rotational basis.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to a rural location.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities and complex tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

Responsibilities

  • Feeding and providing general care for pigs.
  • Maintaining herd health and clean and safe environment for pigs.
  • Pressure washing and preparing rooms for animal entry.
  • Performing minor maintenance and sanitation tasks.
  • Completing clerical duties such as maintaining door charts, inventory trackers, and ordering feed and medication.
  • Following all health and safety policies and adhering to Canada Packers' SOPs for humane animal treatment.

Responsibilities:

Working closely with the Manager, you’ll be responsible for the day‑to‑day operations in the barn. This includes a variety of physical tasks such as pushing, pulling, bending, lifting (up to 25kg), and continuous walking. Your daily responsibilities will include:

Skills & Experience:

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada at the time of application. Proof of eligibility may be requested during the recruitment process.
