Job summary

Catterall & Wright is seeking a Survey Technologist for an 8-month fixed-term contract in Saskatoon, Canada. The role focuses on topographic, construction, and as-built surveys for municipal and civil projects, with field and reporting duties across the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of related surveying experience; if no certificate, minimum of 2 years of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct topographic, construction, and as-built field surveys for civil projects (land development, municipal engineering, building construction).
  • Assist with construction layout surveys for water, sewer, and road projects using GPS, rod & level, or total station.
  • Maintain complete field notes and processing data using control files and coordinate systems.
  • Prepare site inspection and survey reports daily or as required.
  • Support UAV surveys as ground crew; pilot UAV when required.
  • Provide regular project status updates to project managers.

We are looking for a Survey Technologist to join our team on an 8-month fixed-term contract, full-time, Monday through Friday (40 hours per week).

The Opportunity

The Survey Technologist is responsible for conducting topographic, construction, and as-built field surveys for various civil projects, including land development, municipal engineering, and building construction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and assist with topographic survey information using GPS, total station, or drone technology.
  • Provide and assist with construction layout surveys for water, sewer, roadways and earth-moving projects as required using GPS, rod & level, or total station.
  • Maintain complete and accurate field notes for survey projects.
  • Assist with processing survey data using appropriate control files and coordinate systems.
  • Complete site inspection and survey reports daily or as required for each specific project.
  • Assist with site inspections to ensure contractors are constructing work in accordance with design plans and specifications.
  • Track construction quantities as support to contract administration for progress payments, as required.
  • Collect as-built survey information.
  • Assist as ground crew member for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle surveys. Pilot for the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle when required.
  • Provide regular verbal project status and progress reports to project managers.
Working Conditions
  • Work is mainly in an outdoor environment with some office work.
  • Travel outside the city may be required 5% of the time, with some overnight stays.
  • Ability to work outside in any weather condition.
  • Lifting, hammering, and walking long distances required daily.
  • Ability to lift or move up to 50 lbs regularly.
What you have
Education/Experience
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada.
  • Certificate, degree or diploma in the field of Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or other municipal type program.
  • Minimum 1 year of related experience.
  • In the absence of a certificate or diploma, a minimum of 2 years of related experience is required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a reliable personal vehicle.
Skills/Abilities
  • Working knowledge of survey theory and calculations.
  • Working knowledge of Civil 3D.
  • Working knowledge of GPS equipment and practices.
  • Working knowledge of construction surveying.
  • Read and understand project specifications and drawings.
  • Ability to understand and follow company document management and revision control processes.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and the ability to work with a variety of software applications including file management applications and the Microsoft Office Suite.
