Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Seasonal Survey Assistant in Red Deer to support our Geospatial Group through the end of November 2026. The role involves field surveying with GNSS instruments, 3D laser scanners, and traditional equipment, plus data collection and layout tasks in outdoor environments.

Ideal candidates will have strong teamwork and communication, physical stamina for outdoor conditions, and flexibility to work weekends. Asset familiarity with Trimble gear is a plus but not required.

Qualifications

  • You may have construction or geomatics education; asset but not required.
  • Familiarity with Trimble equipment is considered an asset but not required.
  • Ability to perform outdoor tasks in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform surveying tasks using GNSS survey instruments, digital levels, 3D laser scanners, and conventional survey equipment.
  • Assist surveying team members with tasks related to surveying and construction layout.
  • Assisting in the preparation of field notes/sketches and completing field data downloads and uploads.
  • Maintaining field equipment and vehicles.
  • Communicate effectively with members of the team and follow standard procedures.
  • Responsible for maintaining field equipment and vehicles.
  • Responsible for safe operation of tools and equipment.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Our Red Deer office has a seasonal opportunity for a Survey Assistant within our Geospatial Group.

The Earth is top of mind for our Geospatial team. On, above, and under the Earth’s surface, we provide our clients a full range of surveying and mapping services. Please note that this is a defined term role expected to run through the end of November 2026, aligned with the current construction season.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Perform surveying tasks using GNSS survey instruments, digital levels, 3D laser scanners, and conventional survey equipment.
  • Assist surveying team members with tasks related to surveying and construction layout.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • You possess technical and mathematical skills along with the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions.

  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends.
Education and Experience
  • Experience in construction, or post-secondary education in a Geomatics or Civil program would be considered an asset but not required.
  • Basic knowledge and familiarity with Trimble survey equipment would be considered an asset but not required.

Pay Transparency

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
