Job summary

The Region of Durham is seeking a Survey Technician to collect and process topographical survey data at our Whitby HQ. You will calculate project layouts, review onsite requirements, and provide accurate survey services for regional infrastructure programs.

You will use Total Station and Trimble GPS units, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Softdesk, while maintaining equipment and mentoring junior staff. This role is on-site with a focus on safety and precision.

Qualifications

• A two-year post-secondary Civil Engineering or Survey Technician diploma or related discipline.
• Registration or eligible for registration as a Technician with O.A.C.E.T.T.
• Several years of work-related experience in preliminary engineering survey and construction layout.
• Proficiency with mathematical theories (coordinate geometry, trig), total stations, theodolites and levels.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Softdesk applications.

Responsibilities

• Collect, download, edit and manipulate raw topographical survey data.
• Calculate surveys for project grading; coordinate layout, curves, and traverse adjustments.
• Review project onsite to determine requirements, schedules and resources.
• Prepare communications and respond to inquiries from stakeholders.
• Provide quality control by reviewing survey work and producing check drawings and cross-sections.
• Deliver survey services for regional infrastructure projects in a timely, cost-effective manner.
• Maintain and operate survey equipment including the survey van and accessories.
• Train junior survey staff to ensure safe, efficient, accurate work.
