Our Surety Claims Department is looking for a Claims Specialist to handle claims and incidents on moderate to complex contract surety bonds.

What you'll do:

1. Confidently manage an assigned portfolio of surety claims and incidents involving material and labor payment bonds, performance bonds, and developer surety bonds.
2. Handle incidents related to the various bonds issued, assess the risk of default and work with the underwriting team to develop risk avoidance and mitigation strategies.
3. Conduct the required investigations, assessments and settlement of claims under the various bonds.
4. Arrange the completion of contracts on construction projects, including determining the scope of work, preparing/assisting with tender documents, acquiring/evaluating bids as well as preparing completion contracts.
5. Guide external counsel in designing and implementing the most effective strategy to achieve desired outcomes.
6. Review simple to moderately complex agreements, including but not limited to releases, intervention agreements and mitigation agreements.
7. Collaborate effectively with our external partners (lawyers, engineers, accountants, independent adjusters).
8. Coordinate indemnification and other collection efforts on assigned matters.
9. Maintain and foster business relationships with Aviva's surety customers (principals, brokers, beneficiaries, and other partners).
10. The tasks assigned will be adapted to the profile of the successful candidate.

What you'll bring:

1. University education in law or engineering or proven experience in Surety Claims.
2. Solid experience in the field of construction, surety bonding or bankruptcy and insolvency.
3. Good knowledge of contract and construction law is an asset.
4. Knowledge of standard construction documents.
5. Knowledge of insolvency and corporate restructuring practices and law is an asset.
6. Creative solutions, superior dispute resolution skills.
7. Resourcefulness, effective management of external partners.
8. Analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
9. Precise and clear writing style, with great attention to detail.
10. Strong organizational skills and ability to process information quickly and accurately.
