Our Surety Claims Department is looking for a Claims Specialist to handle claims and incidents on moderate to complex contract surety bonds.

What You'll Do

  • Confidently manage an assigned portfolio of surety claims and incidents involving material and labor payment bonds, performance bonds, and developer surety bonds.
  • Handle incidents related to the various bonds issued, assess the risk of default, and work with the underwriting team to develop risk avoidance and mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct the required investigations, assessments, and settlement of claims under the various bonds.
  • Arrange the completion of contracts on construction projects, including determining the scope of work, preparing / assisting with tender documents, acquiring / evaluating bids, and preparing completion contracts.
  • Guide external counsel in designing and implementing the most effective strategy to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Review simple to moderately complex agreements, including but not limited to releases, intervention agreements, and mitigation agreements.
  • Collaborate effectively with external partners (lawyers, engineers, accountants, independent adjusters).
  • Coordinate indemnification and other collection efforts on assigned matters.
  • Maintain and foster business relationships with Aviva's surety customers (principals, brokers, beneficiaries, and other partners).
  • The tasks assigned will be adapted to the profile of the successful candidate.

What You'll Bring

  • University education in law or engineering or proven experience in Surety Claims.
  • Solid experience in construction, surety bonding, or bankruptcy and insolvency.
  • Good knowledge of contract and construction law is an asset.
  • Knowledge of standard construction documents.
  • Knowledge of insolvency and corporate restructuring practices and law is an asset.
  • Creative solutions, superior dispute resolution skills.
  • Resourcefulness, effective management of external partners.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Precise and clear writing style, with great attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to process information quickly and accurately.
