Job summary

Humana Community Services is seeking qualified staff to support adults with developmental disabilities in an awake overnight setting at our Strathroy site. The role requires a DSW or PSW diploma and at least two years of behavior intervention experience. A valid G-class license and vulnerable sector check are mandatory.

You will work varied shifts (16-32 hrs/week) including evenings, weekends, and holidays, with compensation of $28.67 per hour plus vacation pay and 2.5% in lieu of benefits.

• Minimum two years of related experience providing behaviour intervention support; knowledge of concurrent disorders and/or dual diagnoses.

• Multilingualism and diverse lived experiences are assets.

Responsibilities

• Support adults with developmental disabilities in an assisted-living setting, including 24/7 overnight coverage to develop daily living skills.
• Collaborate to implement care plans and person-centered programs meeting diverse needs (medical, personal, social, emotional).
• Provide a safe environment and use de-escalation techniques in crisis situations; maintain professional boundaries.

Summary of Roles & Responsibilities:

• Working with adults with developmental disabilities, concurrent disorders, and/or dual diagnoses in an assisted-living environment, providing 24/7 support to develop daily living skills that support community integration/engagement in an awake overnight setting.
• Collaborate with the team to implement care plans that support involvement in person-centered programs that ensure the daily needs of participants are met (medical, personal, physical, financial, hygienic, social, recreational, emotional, developmental), and provide the best quality of life while in compliance with legislated requirements and company policies and procedures
• Provide a safe and supportive environment for participants requiring varying levels of behavioral interventions; remain calm and focused in crisis situations while utilizing effective de-escalation and decision-making skills
• Work successfully with diverse groups and demonstrate commitment to principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice

Qualifications:

• Completion of a post-secondary diploma in Developmental Services Worker (DSW) or Personal Support Worker (PSW) - or an equivalent Human Services program.
• Minimum two (2) years of related experience providing behaviour intervention support; knowledge of concurrent disorders and/or dual diagnoses, and strategies for support
• Reliable with a demonstrated commitment to being a dependable member of a team
• Understanding of support requirements specific to the roles and responsibilities of the job
• Proficiency in both verbal and written communication
• Strong leadership, mentorship, advocacy, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills, in addition to attention to detail
• Ability to work collaboratively with the team, and independently as necessary
• Capacity to establish, implement, and maintain professional and personal boundaries
• Multilingualism and having diverse lived experiences are considered assets

Requirements:

• Valid Class G (full) Driver's License with a 3-year Uncertified Driver Record
• Satisfactory current (within the last 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Check
• Physical Health assessment: verification of up-to-date immunisations, negative TB Skin test (within the last 6 months), COVID vaccination status (2 doses), and ability to meet the physical and psychological requirements of the position
• Current Standard First Aid & CPR, Level C with AED training preferred
