GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is responsible for managing and improving the quality of products and services provided by suppliers to our organization.

The SQE works closely with suppliers to establish quality standards, conducts regular audits, monitors supplier performance, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to enhance overall product quality and customer satisfaction. May be required to generate compliance documents such as Procurement Specifications to ensure the supplier understands and complies with the outgoing quality requirements.

Must be familiar with the New Product Introduction (NPI) Phase Gate process and be prepared to actively participate in supporting the transition of products from design, through test and into the production phase within the supply chain.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Supplier Assessment, Qualification and Selection:
  • Evaluate potential suppliers based on their quality management systems, manufacturing processes, and quality performance.
  • Collaborate with the procurement team to select suppliers that meet quality standards and requirements.
  • Will perform Supplier Qualification activities to ensure the supplier meets our operating and quality expectations.
  1. Quality Standards and Specifications:
  • Define and communicate quality standards, procurement specifications, and inspection criteria to suppliers.
  • Work with Engineering to develop the various documentation required for the supplier to meet the quality requirements.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure they understand and adhere to the agreed-upon quality requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of process capability indices (Cp, Cpk), statistical process control (SPC) techniques, and quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
  1. Supplier Audits and Performance Monitoring:
  • Conduct regular supplier audits (virtual or on-site) to assess their quality management systems, process control methods, and compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Monitor supplier performance using key performance indicators (KPIs) and take corrective actions when necessary.
  • Assess the statistical methods a supplier will use to control their process and may have to train suppliers in these methods should those not be evident.
  • Will coordinate QBRs for key suppliers.
  1. Problem Resolution:
  • Investigate and resolve quality issues related to supplied products or services.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to implement corrective and preventive actions to address quality problems.
  • Responsible for issuing, monitoring, and driving to conclusion 8D and SCAR processes.
  1. Continuous Improvement:
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements in supplier operations to enhance product quality, reduce defects, and improve overall efficiency.
  • Work closely with suppliers to implement continuous improvement initiatives and best practices.
  1. Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of supplier assessments, audits, and corrective actions taken.
  • Prepare regular reports on supplier quality performance and communicate findings to relevant stakeholders.
  1. Collaboration and Communication:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, and procurement, to resolve quality-related issues and improve processes.
  • Communicate effectively with suppliers, internal teams, and management to ensure alignment on quality goals and expectations.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, quality management, or a related field.
  • Over 5 years of experience in the electronic manufacturing industry.
  • Previous experience in supplier quality engineering or a similar role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Must have working capability of Statistical methods as they apply to process control in a manufacturing environment, control charts, distribution & variance analysis, repeatability & reproducibility assessment, sampling plans.
  • Strong knowledge of quality management systems, quality control methods, and tools e.g. SPC, CAPA, Gauge R&R, etc.
  • Experience in conducting supplier audits and implementing corrective actions.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to quality management.
  • Proficiency in using quality management software and tools.
