Job summary

Job description

First-Line Supervisor, Train Operations – Toronto, Ontario

Lead and supervise train operations across the Metrolinx system, ensuring safety, efficiency, and customer service, and coordinate with operations, maintenance, and regulatory authorities.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure all transportation and customer service activities comply with corporate policies, regulations, and Canadian Rail Operating Rules.
  • Coordinate, direct, and supervise Train Operators to safely operate trains and provide quality service on schedule.
  • Monitor train performance, address deviations, and collaborate with Metrolinx and host railway officers to ensure daily performance.
  • Provide on‑job training and coaching for Train Operators; support development of follow‑up training programs.
  • Investigate customer complaints, accidents, injuries, rule violations, and incidents, recommend corrective actions.
  • Respond to accidents, derailments, or disruptions; coordinate maintenance activities for swift return to normal operations.
  • Serve as liaison with the Transportation Safety Board and Transport Canada inspectors for operations and investigations.
  • Contribute to the development of a Safety Management System meeting regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
  • Secondary school diploma.
  • Minimum five years experience as a Locomotive Engineer, Conductor, or similar rail industry role.
  • Preferred experience as a Railway Supervisor, Trainmaster, Superintendent, or crew‑management role.
  • Rules Qualification and Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) certification (asset).
  • Strong English communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to work different shifts as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop teams in a fast‑paced environment.
