Job summary

Alstom in Whitby, ON seeks a Test Leader to define, plan, and allocate testing scope across project stages. You will lead testing activities to meet health, safety, and regulatory standards while coordinating with Engineering, Verification & Validation, and Project Commissioning teams.

You will organize site tests, manage resources, and ensure compliance with system specifications and contractual requirements, driving technical leadership across teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (electronics or embedded systems preferred).
  • 3+ years in onboard test/commissioning in railway environment.
  • 1+ year in a leadership role.
  • Understanding of planning and risk assessment processes.
  • Knowledge of Metrolinx and AREMA standards.
  • Health, safety and environment knowledge.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Valid driving license.

Responsibilities

  • Organizing T&C activities, including planning, resource allocation, and documentation.
  • Ensuring compliance of signalling systems with system specifications and contractual requirements.
  • Developing T&C procedures based on subsystem specifications.
  • Providing technical leadership to teams and resolving technical challenges.
  • Interfacing with Engineering and V&V teams to optimize site tests.
  • Reporting progress, issues, and anomalies during site testing to the Project Commissioning Manager.
  • Supporting the development of competency within the T&C team.
  • Ensuring adherence to Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) and regulatory standards.

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your technical and leadership expertise in a cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside collaborative, innovative, and safety-focused teammates.

You’ll play a pivotal role in validating the signalling system and ensuring compliance with legal, Metrolinx, and AREMA standards. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (such as Engineering, Verification & Validation, and Project Commissioning), organize testing and commissioning (T&C) activities, and much more.

You’ll specifically take care of defining, planning, and allocating the testing scope across various project stages, but also leading and overseeing testing activities to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements.

We’ll look to you for:
  • Organizing T&C activities, including planning, resource allocation, and documentation
  • Ensuring compliance of signalling systems with system specifications and contractual requirements
  • Developing T&C procedures based on subsystem specifications
  • Providing technical leadership to teams and resolving technical challenges

All about you
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably electronics or embedded systems) or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Extensive experience in industrial and infrastructure projects
  • At least 3 years of experience in onboard test and commissioning in a railway environment
  • At least 1 year of experience in a leadership role
  • Understanding of planning and risk assessment processes
  • General knowledge of Metrolinx and AREMA standards
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environment requirements
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Proactive problem-solving and accountability
  • Fluency in English
  • A valid driving license

Other desirable skills and certifications:

  • Knowledge of the European Train Control System (ETCS) and Alstom products
  • P.Eng designation or eligibility in Ontario
  • CROR certification
  • Knowledge of the Metrolinx fleet (MP40 Tier 2/3 and BL X Cab car)
  • 309A Construction and Maintenance Electrician certification

Compensation

The expected compensation for this role is$95,000 – $125,000 CADper year, plus benefits and eligibility for an annual performance bonus. Final compensation will be based on skills, experience, and internal equity.
