Job summary

Blue Mountain Resort Company is seeking a Supervisor, Snowmaking and Trail Maintenance to lead a dedicated team through the winter season, ensuring trails are safe for guests with setup of ribbons, fences, padding and drainage.

During the summer, the role will execute planned projects (forest management, erosion control, preventative maintenance) to prepare the hill for winter start up, while collaborating with leaders on training and SOP updates and maintaining equipment.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a valid G class driver's license.
  • Experience operating snowmobiles; operation on steep slopes is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of on-hill operations and safety standards.
  • Knowledge of OHSA and TSSA regulations.
  • Familiarity with Blue Mountain trail systems is an asset.
  • Knowledge of excavating and trenching construction methods is an asset.
  • Ministry of Labour chain saw training or willingness to acquire.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule day-to-day objectives for the team focused on operational targets and service standards.
  • Assist frontline staff with setup of ribbons, fences, padding, trees and drainage, using a snowmobile.
  • Develop, facilitate and track departmental training programs.
  • Create and update SOPs related to health & safety and equipment operation.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

The Supervisor, Snowmaking and Trail Maintenance with the direction of the Manager; Slope Maintenance, will lead a dedicated group of staff on working various schedules 24 hours a day during the winter months. Working alongside other departments, ensuring the resort trails are safe for the guest, with setup of Ribbons, Fences, Padding, Tree Trimming and Drainage. During summer months, the incumbent will execute planned projects (forest management, erosion control, and preventative maintenance) to ensure the hill is ready for winter start up.



  • Schedule and set day-to-day objectives for team focused on operational targets and service standards.

  • Assist the front line staff with setup of ribbons, fences, padding, tree trimming and drainage, with use of a snowmobile

  • Works with other division Leaders to develop, facilitate and track departmental training programs

  • In collaboration with Manager of Slope, Terrain & Trails, the supervisor will create and update departmental SOPs (ie. Health & Safety, Equipment Operation etc.)

  • Manage performance of team, including meeting with team to resolve complaints, coaching through performance challenges, and conducting performance reviews.

  • Ensures all equipment is maintained to ensure proper working order; completes necessary equipment logs and reports; assists in investigations when incidents involving equipment occur


WHAT DO WE NEED FROM YOU?


  • Must hold valid G class drivers’ license with satisfactory driver’s abstract

  • Must have experience operating snowmobiles. Operation on steep slopes an asset.

  • Strong understanding of general on-hill operations and safety standards, emergency procedures, etc.

  • Knowledge of OHSA and TSSA Regulations

  • Familiarity with Blue Mountain trail systems and procedures is an asset

  • Knowledge of excavating and trenching construction methods an asset

  • Ministry of Labour Chain Saw training required or willing to acquire

  • Experience operating heavy equipment an asset
