Job summary

Blue Mountain Resort is Ontario’s largest mountain resort, seeking an Assistant Manager, Grooming & Snowmaking to lead a diverse team and ensure a premier mountain experience for guests.

The role reports to the Director, Slope Operations and requires planning, training, safety enforcement, and hands-on supervision of grooming, snowmaking, and summer construction activities.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years snowmaking or grooming experience required.
  • Landscape construction experience is an asset.
  • Experience managing a medium-size work unit (30+ employees) is an asset.
  • Comfort working outdoors in extreme weather.
  • Ability to work weekends and overnight shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee grooming, snowmaking, and summer construction teams.
  • Plan, supervise, and coordinate activities to meet objectives.
  • Lead by example and support the team to achieve results.
  • Create and maintain schedules within budgets and demands.
  • Provide onboarding and training to new staff.
  • Enforce safety regulations and coordinate accident procedures.
  • Coordinate daily shift work and team communications.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance to maximize uptime.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

The Assistant Manager, Grooming & Snowmaking will report directly to the Director, Slope Operations and will oversee a team of Groomers, Snowmakers, Welders, and Heavy Equipment Operators. This position is responsible for helping to create a community of employees united by purpose and fun, deliver a mountain experience to guests that inspires stories, and who achieve departmental objectives and key results. This position and their team are responsible for ensuring the best and safest on‑hill product is produced and maintained. They will plan, supervise, and coordinate the activities of teams engaged in grooming, snowmaking, and summer construction projects.

  • Leading by example; working alongside team members to ensure the team is supported
  • Manage performance and motivate by setting clear expectations, measuring productivity, coaching, addressing concerns, and recognizing achievements.
  • Creating and maintaining schedules according to budgets and operational demands.
  • Planning and providing standardized onboarding and training
  • Enforcing safety regulations and coordinating accident procedures
  • Coordinating and overseeing daily shift work and team communications
  • Coordinating maintenance and timely reporting of equipment issues to maximize uptime.
WHAT DO WE NEED FROM YOU?
  • 5+ years snowmaking or grooming experience required.
  • Landscape construction experience an asset.
  • Experience managing a medium size (30+ employees) work unit an asset
  • Comfort level working outdoors in extreme weather (heat or cold)
  • Ability to work weekend, day and overnight shifts.
