Job summary

The City of Calgary is seeking a Supervisor, Commercial services to lead a multidisciplinary team supporting Streetlight, Traffic Signals, and Traffic Field Operations. You will oversee business operations, financial administration, and customer service, reporting to the Leader of Streetlight & Electrical.

The role demands extensive collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient service delivery while aligning with city policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Commerce, Management or related field.
  • 10 years of progressively responsible experience in public sector operations, infrastructure services, construction, or business administration.
  • Experience coordinating work across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance, safety practices, contract administration, and municipal operations.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team for business operations, customer service, and administrative support.
  • Develop and administer materials, technical requirements, specifications, standards, and business processes for programs.
  • Oversee permitting activities ensuring safety, compliance, and bylaws.
  • Coordinate readiness for capital projects, maintenance, and emergency responses.
  • Monitor budgets, claims, recoveries, reporting, and service agreements.

As the Supervisor, Commercial services, you will report to the Leader from Streetlight & Electrical team, and you will provide leadership and oversight for business operations, permitting, materials development, financial administration, and customer service activities supporting Streetlight, Traffic Signals, and Traffic Field Operations programs. The role leads a multidisciplinary team and works closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient service delivery. Primary duties include:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team responsible for business operations, customer service, and administrative support functions.
  • Support the development and administration of materials, technical requirements, specifications, standards, and business processes for Streetlight, Traffic Signals, and Traffic Field Operations programs.
  • Oversee permitting activities and ensure construction, maintenance, and design work complies with safety requirements, trade agreements, legislation, bylaws, standards, and City policies.
  • Coordinate operational readiness activities to support capital projects, maintenance programs, and emergency response requirements.
  • Monitor budgets, claims, recoveries, reporting, and service agreements to support effective financial stewardship.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with developers, consultants, contractors, utility providers, and internal business units.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and implement tools, procedures, and practices that improve service delivery, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Commerce, Management or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in public sector operations, infrastructure services, construction, or business administration.
  • Experience coordinating work across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance, safety practices, contract administration, and municipal operations.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
