Strength & Conditioning Instructor and Personal Trainer (Full Time) Shawnessy YMCA Start Date: Immediately Salary: Strength and Conditioning Instructor: $34,112 /yr - $42,757/yr (commensurate with education and experience),
The successful candidate will have availability on Monday-Friday (10am-6:30pm).

What qualifications are we looking for?
At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following;
- Bachelor of Physical Education, Kinesiology or related degree preferred
- Experience in a fitness or exercise related field as a personal trainer
- Personal training certification required. CSEP-Certified Exercise Physiologist (CEP) or CSEP-Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) certificate (CEP preferred) is preferred
- Must possess or be willing to obtain (within a 6-month period) Group Fitness certification in at least one specialty area (Group Strength, Older Adult, Aquatic Fitness, Cycle, Yoga, Cardio)
- Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations: Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John's Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol.
- Evidence of a clear Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Three professional references required.
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?
Duties and Responsibilities include;
- Provide a strong presence on the strength and conditioning floor, engaging with and assisting members, answering questions, providing orientations and role modeling positive behaviours.
- Design and deliver safe, effective, evidence-based individual, semi-private, and group fitness programs tailored to members’ abilities and goals.
- Instruct a variety of Group Fitness classes and registered group fitness programs, as required by the facility.
- Provide leadership and support for special events and workshops/presentations as outlined by the Health & Fitness Supervisor.
- Perform regular walk-throughs and equipment inspections to ensure a safe, clean, and hazard-free environment; provide light cleaning and proactive maintenance as needed.
- Show members how to use the cardio equipment and strength and conditioning machines.
- Recommend programs, services, and initiatives that support member engagement and fitness success.
- Actively solicit member feedback regarding the YMCA and facilities
- Conduct YFit appointments, intake interviews, and functional movement assessments to understand member goals, exercise history, and movement capacity.
- Work strictly within personal training and group fitness scope of practice, maintaining professional and ethical conduct, client confidentiality, and YMCA values at all times.
- Refer members to external health professionals when needs fall outside scope of practice.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow established code procedures.
- Be available to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
