Job summary

YMCA Calgary is seeking a dedicated YMAP Coordinator - South Central for part-time, year-round work with high school students. The role involves delivering after-school sessions, supporting summer programs, and collaborating with schools and community partners to provide meaningful youth experiences.

YMAP Coordinator - South Central (Part Time)

Start Date: Immediately
Salary: $20.35/hour - 22.61/hour

What qualifications are we looking for?

At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following;

  • Post-secondary education in Social Sciences, Human Services, Education, Social Work or Humanities
  • Experience and/or desire to work with newcomer youth
  • Experience in leading and facilitating groups, particularly around topics such as leadership, philanthropy and job-searching skills
  • Initiative and a strong work ethic
  • Strong team-work skills as well as the ability to work independently and with low supervision
  • Critical-thinking skills
  • Administrative experience and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Reliable transportation (mileage is reimbursed)
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations: Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John's Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol.
  • Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Three professional references
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Work part-time, year-round, in a dynamic program (YMAP) offering support and positive experiences for high school students.
  • Independently deliver after-school sessions in-person Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays each week from October to June for youth with a wide variety of English levels, with administrative tasks on Wednesdays and events on Fridays and some weekends as needed.
  • Run or support summer programming for youth during July and August
  • Adapt curriculum into daily lesson plans to meet student needs
  • Deliver topics including: self-esteem, healthy relationships, philanthropy, using Calgary transit, resume writing, global initiatives, and cultural awareness
  • Work within a team of YMAP Coordinators
  • Help organize special events for youth
  • Recruit participants through in-school presentations
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports, attendance, statistics, and program impact stories
  • Support program evaluation
  • Provide drop-in and referrals for participants when needed
  • Build and maintain relationships with schools and community organizations
  • Be an ambassador for YMCA programs in the community
  • Ensure a clean and safe work environment
