Job summary

Human Rights Watch in Toronto seeks an Operations & Finance Manager to oversee the office's finance function, HR administration, compliance, governance, and operations. The role requires owning budgets, payroll, audits, and reporting in a lean, multi-hatted setting.

The position is based in Toronto with potential remote work; three to four days on-site per week is expected. A bachelor’s degree in a related field and 5+ years of experience are preferred for this full-time role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in finance, accounting, business administration, nonprofit management, or related field.
• Experience with bookkeeping and day-to-day accounting processes is required.
• Knowledge of Canadian charity regulations and tax requirements is highly desirable.
• Strong Excel skills for financial analysis and reporting are required.

Responsibilities

• Act as the local Finance representative and ensure compliance with Finance policies.
• Manage Toronto bank accounts and cash flows; prepare and monitor the office budget.
• Process and record financial transactions including payroll and reimbursements.
• Run internal and external financial reports and coordinate with stakeholders.
• Coordinate annual external audits and liaise with auditors and tax offices.
