Job summary

Town of Drayton Valley seeks a strategic Communications Manager to lead corporate communications, media relations, public engagement, and marketing initiatives. You will advise senior leadership and collaborate with Town departments to keep the community informed and engaged.

The role blends hands-on writing, multi-channel content creation, and program leadership for major projects. Expect to manage issues, support emergency communications, and champion priorities to strengthen trust.

Qualifications

• A post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
• Five (5) or more years of progressive communications experience, including leadership or management responsibilities.
• Exceptional writing, editing, media relations, and public speaking skills.
• Experience developing communications plans, campaigns, and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
• Strong project management and organizational abilities.
• Comfort navigating sensitive issues with professionalism, discretion, and political awareness.
• Experience using social media platforms, CMS, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Suite.
• Collaborative approach and ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead corporate communications, marketing, and engagement strategies.
• Provide strategic communications advice to senior leadership and Town departments.
• Manage media relations.
• Create content across digital, print, social media, and web platforms.
• Lead communications planning for major projects and community engagement.
• Monitor emerging issues and provide proactive issues management.
• Support emergency and crisis communications, including serving as a Public Information Officer when needed.
• Champion organizational priorities and raise awareness of programs and projects.
