Baffinland is seeking a Stockpile and Shiploading Supervisor at the Milne Inlet Site, NU, Canada. You will lead shiploader and ore pad operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance during the shipping season.

You will supervise ore stacking, reclaiming, and loading activities, mentor crews, and coordinate with maintenance and port control to meet daily targets in challenging arctic conditions.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum one year of supervisory experience.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Experience with mining is an asset.
  • Experience working in a remote, arctic environment is an asset.
  • Experience working with SAP is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Promote safety at all times and ensure due diligence.
  • Supervise ore stacking/inventory management operations on a daily basis.
  • Oversee ore reclaiming and ship loading operations during shipping season.
  • Meet production targets and comply with safety plans and policies.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, and performance feedback to team members.
  • Coordinate with peers and other departments to achieve production and maintenance goals.
  • Ensure smooth ship loading operations in collaboration with Maintenance and Planning teams.

Reporting to the Ship Loading Superintendent, the Stockpile and Shiploading Supervisor is accountable for daily operations at the Shiploader and Stockpile (Ore Pad). The Supervisor leads crews to comply with safety plans, and ensures policies and procedures are followed.

Main Accountabilities
  • To promote safety at all times and ensure due diligence is taken.
  • Daily supervision of ore stacking/inventory management operations.
  • Daily supervision of ore reclaiming operation and ship loading operations during shipping season.
  • Meet objectives and comply with safety plans, incident reporting process, policy/procedure reviews, etc.
  • Using practical judgment within the limits set by the Manager, to manage social problems as they occur.
  • Mentor and provide performance feedback to team members. Coach and counsel employees on the standards of behavior, and take corrective actions as required including discipline.
  • Provide input and work collaboratively with peers and other departments to achieve production and maintenance goals including preventative maintenance schedules and inspections. Also ensure electrical installations are as per requirements.
  • To ensure the smooth operations of the ship loader working with the Maintenance supervisor and planning during the shutdowns and emergency repairs as well as the stacking season.
  • To be the liaison between the dock foreman and Port control officers in order to dock and load the ships in a safe and productive manner.
  • To provide leadership for the Ship loader and reclaiming crews.
  • Oversee and assess the competency and proficiency of the Ore Pad lead hand by mentoring and, coaching and counselling.
  • Leads Tool Box Talks and covers the daily memo as well as ensures any near misses, concerns or pertinent incidents are reviewed. Plans day to day work instructions. To promote safe tons at all times.
  • To assess crew members and evaluate their training requirements.
  • Required to report on production targets and daily performance as well as KPIs and other reports as required by Management including time sheets /payroll (ADP) for contractors and BIM staff.
  • Fills in for the Shiploader Superintendent as required.
  • Work in artic conditions
  • Physically able to use all standard hand tools and lifting up to 25 kg.
  • No Holliday’s are allowed to be taken during the shipping season
  • Ensure work progression by dealing with issues as required
