Job Title: Staff Accountant
The Staff Accountant is responsible for managing financial records, conducting month-end and year-end closing processes, and performing balance sheet reconciliations. This role plays a crucial part in maintaining accurate financial statements and providing analytical support for decision-making.
Responsibilities:
- Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to general ledger accounts.
- Perform and maintain monthly balance sheet account reconciliations for most asset and liability accounts.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure proper accounting for purchases and expenses.
- Conduct bank reconciliations.
- Assist with the monthly financial close process, ensuring accurate financial statements by the 2nd day of each month.
- Research and interpret data to answer accounting and financial questions.
- Maintain fixed asset records, including depreciation, additions/disposals, year-end roll forwards, and reporting.
- Support month-end and year-end closing and prepare related reports, such as metrics.
- Assist other accounting and finance team members, inventory management, cost accounting, and accounts payable.
- Support the year-end audit by managing deadlines and preparing required documentation.
- Assist in preparing the annual budget and monthly financial forecasts.
- Support the Controller with additional projects and analyses.
- Serve as backup for the full accounts payable cycle.
- Prepare and file tax forms with government agencies.
Qualifications:
- University degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
- CPA designation or working towards it.
- High integrity and discretion handling confidential information.
- Over 5 years of experience in Accounting/Finance.
- Over 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment (preferred).
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel, with experience handling large data sets.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Self-motivated with excellent communication skills.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills across all levels of the company.
- Experience with ERP or MRP systems, JD Edwards preferred.
- Experience with query writing tools is an asset.
What We Offer:
Annual salary ranges from $59,000 to $81,000, based on skills and experience.
