Job summary

Smythe LLP is seeking a Senior Manager, IT Operations in Vancouver to lead infrastructure, cybersecurity, and service delivery within a modern digital environment.

You will align roadmaps with business goals, manage vendors, and drive continuous improvement across a hybrid IT landscape while partnering with the CIO on strategic initiatives and transformation efforts.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive IT operations and technology leadership experience.
  • Experience leading infrastructure, cybersecurity, service desk, or related tech ops functions.
  • Experience managing enterprise technology environments and service delivery.
  • Experience developing and executing roadmaps for infrastructure, cloud, security, or operations.
  • Experience managing vendors, MSPs, contracts, licensing, and large tech relationships.
  • Experience implementing security controls and managing risks.
  • Experience supporting business continuity, disaster recovery, and incident management.
  • Strong leadership, planning, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Solid understanding of IT operations, cybersecurity, service management, and BCM practices.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and ability to balance ops, security, and business priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead infrastructure, cybersecurity, service desk, and technology operations functions.
  • Develop and execute roadmaps aligned with Smythe's technology strategy.
  • Oversee incident, problem, change, escalation, and performance management.
  • Drive modernization initiatives and improve end-user technology experience.
  • Lead cybersecurity operations including vulnerability management and IAM.
  • Identify and mitigate technology, cybersecurity, and business continuity risks.
  • Establish governance, standards, and performance metrics for services.
  • Develop disaster recovery, backup, and resiliency capabilities.

Smythe LLP is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Manager, IT Operations to join our growing Digital team. This is an exceptional opportunity for a technology leader who is passionate about building and maintaining secure, resilient, and high-performing technology environments while supporting business growth, operational excellence, and digital transformation.

This role is based in our Vancouver office, with the opportunity to work in a hybrid environment following the completion of the probationary period.

The Opportunity

As Senior Manager, IT Operations, you will provide both strategic and operational leadership for Smythe's technology operations, including infrastructure, cloud services, cybersecurity, service delivery, workplace technology, and vendor management. Working closely with the CIO, you will help ensure technology services are secure, reliable, scalable, and aligned with the firm's business objectives.

You will play a key role in advancing Smythe's digital transformation initiatives by providing the operational leadership, governance, and technology foundations required to support a modern, secure, and scalable technology environment, including data, automation, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead infrastructure, cybersecurity, service desk, and technology operations functions, ensuring reliable, secure, and effective service delivery
  • Develop and execute infrastructure, cloud, and technology operations roadmaps aligned with business priorities and Smythe's technology strategy
  • Oversee service management processes, including incident, problem, change, escalation, and operational performance management
  • Drive infrastructure modernization initiatives and continuously improve the end-user technology experience
  • Lead cybersecurity operations, including vulnerability management, endpoint security, identity and access management, monitoring, and incident response
  • Identify, assess, prioritize, and mitigate technology, cybersecurity, operational, and business continuity risks
  • Establish operational standards, governance practices, and performance measures that support secure, scalable technology services and emerging technology initiatives
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery, business continuity, backup, resiliency, and recovery capabilities across critical technology services
  • Manage relationships with vendors, managed service providers, and technology partners to ensure service, security, and performance expectations are achieved
  • Oversee operational budgets, contracts, licensing, technology investments, and vendor performance
  • Lead, coach, and develop technology team members, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, service excellence, and continuous improvement
  • Provide recommendations and reporting to the CIO regarding operational performance, technology risks, cybersecurity, service levels, and strategic initiatives

What You Bring

  • 7+ years of progressive IT operations and technology leadership experience
  • Experience leading infrastructure, cybersecurity, service desk, or related technology operations functions
  • Experience managing enterprise technology environments and operational service delivery
  • Experience developing and executing infrastructure, cloud, security, or technology operations roadmaps
  • Experience managing technology vendors, managed service providers, contracts, licensing, and enterprise technology relationships
  • Experience implementing security controls and managing technology and operational risks
  • Experience supporting business continuity, disaster recovery, incident management, and operational resilience
  • Strong technology leadership, people management, and strategic planning skills
  • Strong understanding of IT operations, cybersecurity, service management, and business continuity practices
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to balance operational, security, and business priorities
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated adaptability, initiative, and commitment to continuous improvement

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience or strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Microsoft Azure, cloud technologies, identity management, endpoint management, and cybersecurity technologies
  • Strong understanding of IT service management (ITSM) and ITIL principles
  • Experience with infrastructure monitoring, backup, recovery, resiliency, and enterprise technology lifecycle management
  • Experience supporting automation, AI, modern application development, or emerging technology initiatives
  • Experience implementing security controls in cloud, software development, AI-assisted development, or emerging technology environments
  • Degree or diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Technology, or a related field
  • ITIL, CISSP, Azure, Microsoft, or other relevant professional certifications are considered an asset

  • Ability to work from our Vancouver office, with a hybrid schedule available following probation
