Job summary

Smythe LLP, based in Vancouver, BC, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Assurance practice as an Internal Audit Quality Specialist. You will uphold audit quality, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across the Assurance team while collaborating with partners and engagement teams.

The role offers exposure to quality management, development of training materials, and monitoring of professional standards.

Qualifications

• CPA designation or CPA candidate is required or in progress.
• 3–5 years of public practice audit or assurance experience.
• Strong understanding of auditing standards and financial reporting frameworks (ASPE, IFRS, US GAAP).
• Interest in audit quality, standards, research and process improvement.
• Experience with CaseWare and audit methodology tools is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Support ongoing maintenance and improvement of the firm’s quality management processes and internal policies.
• Assist with internal file inspections and quality review procedures.
• Help develop and maintain templates, guidance documents, and technical resources for Assurance teams.
• Support engagement teams with audit methodology and compliance-related questions.
• Monitor updates to accounting and assurance standards and assist with communicating changes internally.
• Assist with the preparation and delivery of internal training sessions and technical presentations.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, consistency, and efficiency across the practice.
• Participate in special projects and firm-wide quality initiatives.
• Collaborate with partners, managers, and staff across multiple service areas.

In this role, you will help uphold the highest standards of audit quality, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across our Assurance team. Working closely with partners, managers, and engagement teams, you will support the firm's quality management processes, contribute to the development of internal training and guidance materials, and help monitor compliance with professional standards, regulatory requirements, and firm policies.

Key Responsibilities

What You Bring

• CPA designation or working toward completion of the CPA program


• 3 to 5 years of public practice audit or assurance experience


• Strong understanding of Auditing Standards and financial reporting frameworks (such as ASPE, IFRS, US GAAP, etc.)


• Interest in audit quality, professional standards, technical research, and process improvement


• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail


• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills


• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across teams


• Experience with CaseWare and audit methodology tools is considered an asset
