Job summary

Smythe LLP in Vancouver is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Private Company Group. This role offers a hybrid work environment following a probation period and the chance to work directly with private company clients, mentoring junior staff and delivering Assurance, Advisory, and Tax services.

You will own engagements, build strong client relationships, stay current with accounting standards, and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing team. CPA or PEP enrollment preferred.

Qualifications

• CPA designation or enrollment in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP).
• 3–5 years of public practice experience, preferably serving private company clients.
• Strong technical knowledge of accounting standards, financial statement prep, and tax compliance.
• Experience preparing and reviewing compilations and review engagements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review compilation and review engagements for private company clients.
• Prepare corporate, partnership, and personal tax returns and related filings.
• Assist clients with accounting, financial reporting, and business advisory matters.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication.
• Mentor and support accountants and junior team members with file reviews.
• Collaborate with managers and partners to deliver high-quality client service.
• Stay current with accounting standards, tax legislation and industry developments.

This is an excellent opportunity for a CPA or CPA student who enjoys working directly with private company clients, developing technicalexpertise, mentoring junior team members, and contributing to a collaborative and high-performing team.

This role is based in our Vancouver office, with the opportunity to work in a hybrid environment following the completion of the probationary period.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Accountant, you will work closely with Managers, Senior Managers, Partners, and clients to deliver Assurance, Advisory, and Tax services to privately held businesses across a wide range of industries. You will take ownership of client engagements, develop meaningful client relationships, and playan important rolein supporting and mentoring junior team members.

In this role, you will:

• Prepare and review compilation engagements, review engagements, and working paper files for private company clients
• Prepare corporate,partnership returns,personaland trust income tax returns,and related tax compliance filings
• Assistclients with accounting, financial reporting, and business advisory matters
• Build andmaintainstrong client relationships through proactive communication and exceptional client service
• Identifyissues, provide practical solutions, and elevate complex matters to Managers and Partners as appropriate
• Manage multiple client engagements and competing priorities while meeting deadlines andmaintainingquality standards
• Mentor and support Accountants and junior team members through coaching, technical guidance, and file reviews
• Collaborate with Managers and Partners to deliver high-quality client service and contribute to engagement success
• Stay current with accounting standards, tax legislation, and industry developments

What You Bring

• CPA designation or enrollment in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP)
• Minimum 3–5 years of public practice experience, preferably serving private company clients
• Strong technical knowledge of accounting standards, financial statement preparation, and tax compliance
• Experience preparing and reviewing compilationsand review engagement files
• Proficiencypreparing corporate and personal income tax returns
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusted client relationships
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a deadline-driven environment
• A collaborative, client-focused, and professional approach
