Job summary

Tesla in Richmond Hill, Ontario seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to design and support automated testing systems for power electronics and batteries. You will work within a global Manufacturing Test Engineering group to build data‑driven, high‑performance test equipment for factories worldwide.

The role emphasizes hands‑on engineering, NFPA/UL standards, safety, and collaboration with global production teams. 40 hours/week, on‑site in Richmond Hill, with occasional travel.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years in control, automation, test, or mechatronics engineering.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechatronics engineering or equivalent.
  • Familiar with electrical testing instrumentation (power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, power analyzers).
  • Proficient with EPLAN and AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Knowledge of Rockwell Studio 5000 and/or Siemens TIA Portal is a plus.
  • Industry experience in manufacturing automation and high‑voltage power electronics is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • From the ground up, create and develop test equipment that is completely automated.
  • Create test specifications and execution plans; guide junior engineers.
  • Research, choose, and include electrical testing instruments and equipment.
  • Conceive and verify panels complying with NFPA79/NEC/UL508A standards.
  • Install and validate safety measures for high‑voltage and mechanical hazards.
  • Diagnose and polish the automated testing process to improve cycle time and uptime.
  • Travel assistance up to 20% (USA and international).

Requirements
  • A minimum of 5 years experience of direct participation in control, automation, test, or mechatronics engineering.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechatronics engineering or equivalent through practical experience.

Familiarity with electrical testing instrumentation such as specifying: power supplies, multi-meters, oscilloscopes, power analyzers.

  • The capability of using electrical CAD tools such as EPLAN and AutoCAD Electrical is a must.
  • Programming skills in Rockwell Allen‑Bradley Studio 5000 and/or Siemens TIA Portal PLC systems will be an advantage.
  • It would be beneficial if the person has knowledge of industrial/manufacturing automation and high‑voltage power electronics like inverters, dc‑dc converters.
