Job description

Job Title:Sr Account Manager
Job ID:90408
Location: Markham, Ontario

What you will be doing:
  • Develop and execute a focused sales plan for the GTA and Eastern Ontario.

  • Identify, prospect and onboard new distributors, large projects, and commercial customers.

  • Build productive relationships with distributor leadership, branch managers, counter staff, outside sales representatives and project teams.

  • Visit distributor branches, customer offices, project sites, contractors, consultants and other decision-makers throughout the territory.

  • Grow assigned existing accounts by introducing additional products and identifying repeat-purchase opportunities.

  • Reactivate dormant or underdeveloped customers where there is a credible opportunity to rebuild the relationship.

  • Develop relationships with architects, designers, engineers, lighting specifiers, developers, general contractors and electrical contractors.

  • Identify multifamily, apartment, mixed-use, commercial, institutional and industrial projects at an early stage.

  • Support efforts to have appropriate products considered, approved, substituted or specified on suitable projects.

  • Review drawings, fixture schedules, specifications and customer requirements in collaboration with the company’s estimating and technical resources.

  • Coordinate lighting takeoffs, product selections, estimates, quotations, submittals and value-engineering alternatives.

  • Present products, samples, technical information, certifications, pricing and commercial programs.

  • Identify larger project, replenishment, multi-branch and planned-volume sales opportunities.

  • Pursue suitable factory-backed, MOQ and project-direct opportunities where customers can plan requirements in advance.

  • Negotiate professionally while protecting pricing, margins, customer relationships and commercial interests.

  • Follow opportunities from the initial conversation through quotation, approval, order, delivery, collection and repeat purchasing.

  • Maintain a disciplined pipeline with accurate opportunity values, next steps, decision-makers and expected closing dates.

  • Follow up consistently on quotations, samples, presentations, meetings and outstanding decisions.

  • Provide reliable sales forecasts, account plans and regular activity updates.

  • Track customer interactions and opportunities using the company’s approved CRM or sales-management systems.

  • Provide market intelligence regarding competitors, pricing, product requirements, project activity and customer demand.

  • Work closely with Customer Service, Accounting, Purchasing, Warehouse, Quality Assurance and leadership to ensure customer commitments are accurate and properly executed.

What you must have:
  • A demonstrated and verifiable record of success in B2B sales.

  • Proven experience developing new customers, opening accounts and growing a sales territory.

  • A history of meeting or exceeding meaningful sales objectives.

  • Strong prospecting, relationship-development, presentation, negotiation and closing skills.

  • The ability to independently secure meetings and create opportunities rather than relying primarily on inbound leads.

  • An entrepreneurial mindset and a strong sense of ownership.

  • Persistence, initiative and the ability to remain focused through longer commercial sales cycles.

  • Strong follow-up discipline and the ability to move opportunities toward a decision.

  • Commercial judgement, including an understanding of pricing, gross margin, payment terms and profitable sales.

  • The ability to manage several accounts, projects, quotations and priorities simultaneously.

  • Professional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Reliability, responsiveness and personal accountability.

  • Comfort working in a performance-driven, commission-based role.

  • Willingness to travel regularly throughout the GTA and Eastern Ontario.

  • A valid driver’s licence and access to a suitable insured vehicle.

  • Comfort using Microsoft 365 and customer-relationship or sales-tracking systems.
