Job description

Job Description

The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for providing direct clinical care, including assessment and therapy, to patients at Mackenzie Health. This position is unique and will be in need of SLP services throughout the hospital.

Contribute to safe, quality care by:

  • Assessment, treatment, consultation, and education of communication disorders (e.g., aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, cognitive-communication impairment).
  • Dysphagia management, including screening, assessment, treatment, and education.
  • Working collaboratively with professional colleagues within and across disciplines.

What must you have?

  • Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited university.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificate.

What else do you bring?

  • Experience in conducting clinical swallowing evaluations.
  • Experience in analyzing video-fluoroscopic swallowing (VFSS) studies.
  • Ability to provide clinical education, including in-services and patient/family education.
  • Ability to work independently, self-direct, and lead inter-professional teams.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage daily activities and priorities.
  • Effective communication skills, including active listening and engagement.
  • Flexibility in leadership and problem-solving abilities.
  • Willingness to collaborate with colleagues across disciplines.
  • Supervisory experience is an asset.
  • Proven attendance record.
  • Understanding and adherence to safety policies fostering a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Ability to perform essential duties of the role.
  • Empathy in interactions.
  • Alignment with Mackenzie Health’s values of Excellence, Leadership, and Empathy.
  • Commitment to providing an exceptional experience for staff and patients.

Preferably, your profile also includes:

  • Membership in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO).
  • OSLA or SAC membership (asset).
  • 2-3 years of experience as a Speech Language Pathologist.
  • Experience working with stroke populations.
  • Experience in rehabilitation and acute care settings (assets).
