SPEECH AND LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST (Temporary)

Join to apply for the SPEECH AND LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST (Temporary) role at Durham District School Board.

This is a 16-month contract position.

Job Details

Reports to: Senior Manager and Clinical Lead - Speech, Language and Hearing Services.

Uses specialized knowledge to identify barriers for students with communication and language needs. Collaborates with educators, provides intervention coaching, and works as part of a multidisciplinary team assessing, consulting, and programming for students with communication delays and disorders, including complex needs. Designs and delivers workshops for parents and staff, participates in meetings, and provides student-specific programming for home and classroom.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assess students and interpret results: Provide individualized assessments using developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive measures. Share findings with caregivers and staff using a strengths-based approach.
  2. Plan, organize, and implement interventions: Collaborate with school teams to support educational planning. Deliver targeted interventions, model strategies, and coach educators to support student growth.
  3. Document and collect data: Complete reports promptly, maintain confidential records per standards.
  4. Instruct and guide: Model communication strategies for educators and parents. Develop and deliver workshops and presentations.
  5. Acquire knowledge: Engage in professional development to stay current with evidence-based practices.
  6. Collaborate with outside agencies: Liaise with community services and refer students as needed.
  7. Other duties: As assigned by the Manager of Speech Language Services.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology or equivalent; current CASLPO registration.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based clinical practices, CASLPO standards, and policies.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with various stakeholders.
Additional Requirements
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license; ability to travel within DDSB.
  • Experience in pediatric clinical/educational settings preferred.
