Solutions Engineer – Job Description
Position Overview

At RFNOW Inc., we are a leading Internet Telecommunications Service Provider dedicated to delivering high-speed, reliable internet connectivity to residential and business subscribers. We are looking for a Solutions Architect to join our team to ensure proposed solutions are feasible, cost-effective, and aligned with both customer requirements and organizational capabilities.

The Solutions Architect plays a central role in supporting the sales cycle by translating customer needs into technically sound, commercially viable telecommunications solutions. This position partners closely with Sales, Engineering, Product, and Operations teams to design, validate, and present solutions involving fiber networks, transport systems, IP networking, wireless technologies, cloud connectivity, and managed services.

Key Responsibilities
Solution Design & Technical Expertise
  • Analyze customer requirements and design end-to-end telecom solutions including fiber connectivity, Ethernet services, IP/MPLS networks, DWDM/optical transport, fixed wireless, VoIP, and managed network services.
  • Develop detailed technical proposals, network diagrams, bills of materials (BOMs), and solution architectures.
  • Validate solution feasibility by collaborating with Services, Network Engineering, Field Operations, and Planning teams.
  • Recommend optimal technologies and configurations based on performance, scalability, and cost considerations.
  • Ensure all proposed solutions comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal engineering guidelines.
  • Participate in customer meetings, discovery sessions, and technical workshops to understand business challenges and translate them into technical requirements.
  • Deliver technical presentations, product demonstrations, and solution overviews to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Serve as the technical point of contact during the presales cycle, addressing customer questions, objections, and solution-specific concerns.
  • Support RFP/RFI responses by preparing accurate, compelling technical content.
Costing, Quoting & Commercial Alignment
  • Work with internal teams to develop accurate cost models, pricing structures, and margin analyses for proposed solutions.
  • Prepare and validate quotes, service designs, and scope-of-work documents.
  • Identify risks, dependencies, and assumptions associated with proposed solutions and communicate them clearly to Sales and leadership.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Product Management to provide customer feedback, identify market trends, and support new product development.
  • Collaborate with Network Planning to assess capacity, route availability, and build-out requirements.
  • Coordinate with Project Management to ensure smooth handoff from presales to delivery.
  • Maintain strong relationships with vendors and technology partners to stay current on emerging telecom technologies.
Documentation & Technical Governance
  • Produce high-quality technical documentation including solution briefs, design guides, and customer-facing materials.
  • Maintain accurate records of solution designs, assumptions, and technical decisions.
  • Ensure proposed solutions align with network standards, security policies, and operational capabilities.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of telecom technologies such as fiber networks, Ethernet services, IP routing/switching, MPLS, BGP, OSPF, DWDM/optical transport, and wireless systems.
  • Experience designing enterprise connectivity solutions (e.g., DIA, Layer 2/3 VPNs, SD-WAN, SIP/VoIP).
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, customer-friendly language.
  • Proficiency with network design tools, Visio or similar diagramming software, and quoting/configuration systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and solution-architecture skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across technical and commercial teams.
  • Experience responding to RFPs/RFIs and preparing technical proposals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or related field.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNA/CCNP, JNCIA/JNCIS, MEF-CECP, or optical networking certifications.
  • Experience with fiber-to-the-premise (FTTP), last-mile builds, or telecom construction considerations.
  • Familiarity with OSS/BSS systems, network inventory tools, and GIS mapping platforms.
