Job summary

RFNOW Inc. is seeking qualified candidates for a Quality Control Inspector role. The position involves reviewing FTTH construction work, ensuring proper installation of fiber-optic systems, and verifying vaults, cabinets, and splices meet specifications.

Travel across Southern Manitoba and Saskatchewan is required. The successful candidate will perform inspections, operate test equipment, document findings with visuals, and coordinate with project managers.

Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of experience in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the outside plant (OSP) that supports fibre optic services.
  • Working knowledge of safe construction practices for aerial and underground networks.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret general system layouts from blueprints and system maps.

Responsibilities

  • Perform construction inspections for quality control in accordance with the company’s standards.
  • Verify property restoration aligns with standard practice.
  • Operate test equipment to verify optical and RF power levels.
  • Document installations of underground vaults and cabinets with photos/video.
  • Prepare work orders to resolve non-conforming elements in the plant.
  • Communicate with the Project Manager or Supervisor about construction progress.

Job description

RFNOW Inc. is seeking applications from motivated individuals to join our team as a Quality Control Inspector. Responsible for reviewing and evaluating Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) construction projects, including using the plan design against new build, span and drop replacements (if needed), installations, proper installation of any fiber-optic cable, splice cases and cabinets, splitters and XWDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing), underground installations (bores, vaults, and trenches) and MDU lockbox replacements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform construction inspections for quality control in accordance with the company’s standards.
  • Verify that property restoration is consistent with the Company’s standard practice.
  • Operate test equipment as needed to verify optical and RF power levels are set as designed.
  • Document (in still image and/or video) that underground vaults and cabinets have been built and installed as planned.
  • Prepare work orders to resolve any element in the plant that does not meet specifications.
  • Communicate with the Project Manager or designated Supervisor regarding concerns about construction progress.
  • Ability to work weekends as the business needs dictate.
  • Perform emergency locates as necessary.
  • Adhere to industry-specific local, provincial, and federal regulations, as applicable.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Five (5) years of experience in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the outside plant (OSP) that supports fibre optic services.
  • Working knowledge of safe construction practices used in building aerial and underground communications networks.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret general system layouts from blueprints and system maps.
  • Familiarity with computer or test equipment associated with position (ex. signal level meters, ohm meters, etc.)
  • Valid class 5 driver's license with satisfactory driving record
  • Field-based in varying environmental conditions.
  • Walking over all types of terrain in all kinds of weather.
  • Cover a large geographic area across Southern Manitoba and Saskatchewan
  • Regular travel in the field Monday to Friday with some overnight stays required
