Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct support to families, including voluntary services, advocacy, and referrals.
• Maintain voluntary support services files, including the Extended Family Program.
• Help ensure children and families have access to basic needs (food, safety equipment).
• Assess and support family care homes and respite homes.
• Develop and implement individual and family support plans, often with MCFD collaboration.
• Maintain ICM case records and documentation.
• Collaborate with other Namgis departments to deliver parenting and family wellness workshops.
• Partner with service providers on Cormorant Island and North Vancouver Island.
• Deliver programs rooted in Namgis culture and traditional practices.
• Follow agency protocols and provincial legislation related to delegation.

About the role

The K'wak'walat'si Child and Family Services (KCFS) team is a Delegated C3 Indigenous Child and Family Services Agency within the 'Namgis Community Services department. KCFS receives its delegation through the Provincial Director of Child Welfare, providing the agency with authority to administer parts of the Child, Family and Community Service Act (CFCSA). Under its current delegation agreement, KCFS administers C3 family services. The Social Worker supports KCFS's focus on prevention and strengthening families, with the goal of maintaining family units wherever possible while ensuring the safety and well-being of children. The role provides direct support, advocacy, referrals, and proactive strategies that promote healthy families and positive outcomes while helping mitigate potential risks.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct support to families, including voluntary support services, advocacy, and referrals
• Maintain voluntary support services files, including the Extended Family Program
• Help ensure children and families have access to food, safety equipment, and other basic needs
• Assess and support family care homes and respite homes
• Develop and implement individual and family support plans, often in collaboration with MCFD
• Maintain appropriate ICM case records and documentation
• Collaborate with other 'Namgis departments in the design and delivery of workshops focused on parenting, family wellness, trauma, addictions, poverty, and related areas
• Partner with service providers on Cormorant Island and North Vancouver Island
• Provide programs and services rooted in 'Namgis culture and ways of being
• Follow agency protocols and standards related to the agency's level of delegation and applicable provincial legislation
• Maintain effective working relationships with MCFD, RCMP, the Health Centre, and other 'Namgis programs

Skills and Experience

• Experience in social services, child and family support, or Indigenous community work
• Knowledge of the Child, Family and Community Service Act and the delegated authority process
• Strong organizational skills, particularly in case management and documentation
• Understanding of trauma-informed practices
• Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn about 'Namgis and Kwakwaka'wakw culture, history, and values
• Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with families, community members, colleagues, and partner organizations

Education/Qualifications

• Bachelor of Social Work (BSW), BA in Child and Youth Care, or a related human services degree; or
• A combination of related education and experience
• Valid driver's licence and access to a safe and reliable vehicle
• Employment is subject to satisfactory employment references and a criminal record check

Other Job Requirements

• Overtime and on-call work during evenings and weekends may be required from time to time
• Ability to work collaboratively with families, community programs, government agencies, and other service providers
• Candidates are typically offered compensation between the beginning and midpoint of the salary range
