Interior Community Services in Kamloops, BC is seeking a full-time Supervised and Supportive Visitation Family Support Worker. The role requires a valid Class 5 driver’s license, a vehicle for work, and union membership.

• Credential training: CPR-C, Mandt-R.C, SafeTALK, Safe Food Handling, MCFD Privacy, Car Seat Safety and Installation, Abuse and Neglect training, Anti-Bullying and Harassment.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety of children during visits with their parents/family members.
• Co-create goals and strategies with families and stakeholders; participate in ICMs as needed.
• Educate and coach parents on attachment, parenting, and child development.
• Coach families through grief and loss of relationships during separation.
• Document attendance and progress, report serious incidents within 24 hours.

Child and Family Services Full Time Kamloops, BC $30.95 - $35.52 CAD per hour

• Valid Class 5 Driver’s license and safe driving record
• Own vehicle with Business Use and third-party liability insurance of $5 million (reimbursement is provided).
• Degree (preferred) or diploma in human/social services or related field
• 2 years of experience in the areas of parenting, grief and loss, attachment, and child development
• Or a combination of education, training, and experience
• Following training is required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset: CPR-C, Mandt-R.C, SafeTALK, Safe Food Handling, MCFD Privacy, Car Seat Safety and Installation, Abuse and Neglect training, Anti-Bullying, and Harassment.
• This position requires Union membership, and 1.85% union dues are deducted from each pay.
• Consent to Criminal Record Check.

BENEFITS and COMPENSATION

• $30.95-$35.52 per hour (Grid 12 as per collective agreement)

ABOUT THE JOB:

The Supervised and Supportive Visitation (SSV) Family Support Worker ensures the safety of children and youth visiting their parents and/or family members while providing coaching and educational advice to appropriately parent and maintain healthy relationships. Provides support in a variety of settings within the community. This is an outreach position that includes the transportation of clients.

• Ensures the safety of children visiting their parents and/or family members. Assists them in gaining an understanding of why their visits are supervised.
• Identifies individual and family strengths, needs, and patterns of interaction.
• Co-creates realistic goals and intervention strategies with the individual, family, MCFD, and other relevant stakeholders. Collaborates with all parties to help reach desired outcomes. Participates in ICMs as needed.
• Educates and coaches parents in attachment, parenting, child development, communication, problem-solving, life skills, and how to communicate feelings with their children.
• Coaches parents and children through the grief and loss of relationship they experience during separation.
• Observes and documents parental attendance and appropriateness and makes notations as required.
• Reports any serious incident within 24 hours of occurrence to MCFD in writing with a follow-up phone call.
• Supports Parenting Attachment and Individual Development (P.A.I.D) Program with general operational duties such as shopping, childminding, etc.

• Recognize the signs of substance use disorders and intoxication and apply interventions to maintain the safety of all participants as necessary.

HOURS of WORK:

37.5 hours per week

SCHEDULE:

Flexible hours, with the majority of visits occurring Monday to Friday during daytime hours. With appropriate notice, this position may require adjusting hours to accommodate families' needs for evening or weekend visits.
