The YMCA of Northern Alberta is looking for a Social Media & Communications Coordinator to engage and connect people across Edmonton and surrounding regions. This position is based in Edmonton and supports the work of our Y’s four regions of operation: Edmonton, Red Deer, GrandePrairieand Wood Buffalo. As a member of the Marketing & Communications team, you will support the development and implementation of our marketing and communications strategies, create compelling and engagingcontentand help us tell the Y story,reporting to the Marketing & Communications Supervisor.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple social media platforms daily for a variety of YMCA programs, service areas and regions, including (but not limited to) Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube and X.
  • Create, develop and curate original, engaging content that tells the YMCA story, promotes brand awareness, improves marketing and fund development efforts and effectively engages stakeholders.
  • Attend events, activations and programs to shoot photo and video content.
  • Edit photo and video content, design graphics and write copy that engages audiences and aligns with the YMCA brand.
  • Assess and identify social media audiences and tailor content and tone to meet those audiences’ needs and interests.
  • Monitor, investigate and respond to comments, reviews, questions and all social media engagement to maintain an understanding of brand perception and deliver our online brand experience.
  • Monitor social media channels for trends, issues, news, mentions or reputational risks and keep senior leadership and internal subject matter experts informed.
  • Test, evaluate and report on the progress and performance of social media campaigns and content.
  • Work collaboratively with a creative marketing and communications team who are collectively focused on the growth and development of marketing strategies in conjunction with the organization’s strategic plans.
  • Collaborate with colleagues at all levels of the organization, from frontline staff to the CEO, to capture and create content.
  • Provide other tactical communications support as needed, including developing print and digital materials and writing internal and external content.
  • Be willing to occasionally travel to our other regions (Red Deer, Wood Buffalo or Grande Prairie), and to cover events or activations on occasional evenings or weekends.

Qualifications:

Experience and a high level of comfort working with Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro and others) to design and edit content, including photo, video and other social media assets. Experience with equivalent photo or video editing software will be considered.

Experience using camera, audio and lighting equipment.

Diploma or Degree in marketing, design, advertising, public relations, communications, or related fields.

1+ year of related social media, design or digital marketing experience required.

Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required, as this role requires visiting many different YMCA locations to collect content.
