Job summary

YMCA of Northern Alberta is seeking a Youth Center Worker to support youth through relationship building and to facilitate activities that develop skills for overcoming challenges. You will model positive behaviours, promote inclusion, and connect youth with available resources.

Responsibilities include planning activities, supervising participants, and maintaining a safe environment per YMCA policies. Strong communication and teamwork are essential, with required First Aid/CPR-C and Vulnerable

Qualifications

• Minimum 16+ years of age.
• High School Diploma or equivalent is an asset.
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Suicide Intervention Certification an asset.
• Previous youth work/mentorship or related experience.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office and other forms of technology effectively.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and team skills.
• Intermediate (Standard) First Aid & CPR-C.
• Able to obtain a Police Information Check with Vulnerable sector check.

• Supervise youth during programming, manage behavior in accordance with YMCA policies.
• Connect and build relationships with youth and connect them to agencies and programs available.
• Maintains knowledge of relevant services and community resources.
• Maintains a safe and supportive environment for all by following YMCA Health Safety, Child Protection and Emergency policies and procedures.
• Ensure administrative duties related to program are completed.
• Communicate effectively with other staff and volunteers including documentation of issues, incidents, equipment/maintenance issues and daily staff logs.

About the Role:

The Youth Center Worker supports youth through strong relationship development while facilitating and promoting activities and programs designed to help youth build the skills necessary to manage the challenges they face. This role models positive behaviours, encourage skill development in sports and arts, assist with conflict resolution, facilitate peer to peer relationship building, promote a culture of inclusion and connect youth to resources and agencies when necessary.
