Job summary

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is seeking an Educational Assistant (EA) for the Sister Mary Philips School in Fort McMurray. The position is half-time (12.5–15.5 hours per week) with start dates ASAP and a closing date of 15 September 2016.

The candidate will support students’ cognitive, communication, physical and social development, assist with teacher-directed programming, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team. A Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Check are required.

Qualifications

• Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma required.
• NVCI Level A&B may be required.
• Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Check may be required.

Responsibilities

• Support students' growth in cognition, communication, physical and social development.
• Support and/or implement teacher directed programming.
• Work collaboratively under guidance of teacher, CST and a multi-disciplinary team.
• Implement specialist strategies (OT, PT, SLP) to achieve goals.
• Implement behaviour management and educational strategies to facilitate learning.
• Communicate effectively with students using positive reinforcements and school behaviour strategies.
• Observe and guide student behaviour to achieve positive outcomes.
• Provide structure to facilitate completion of learning outcomes.
• Provide supervision during indoor and outdoor activities.

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is looking for a half-time Educational Assistant in ECS.

Qualifications:

• Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma
• May be required to obtain NVCI Level A&B

Requirements:

• Support students' growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development
• Support and/or implement teacher directed programming
• Work collaborative under guidance of teacher, CST and members of a multi-disciplinary team
• Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc) strategies to achieve required goals
• Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learning
• Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school specific behaviour strategies
• Observe student behaviour with focus on achieving positive behavioural/educational outcomes and mitigate/prevent negative ones
• Provide high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes
• Work and play at student's physical level of their activities
• Provide support in use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs
• Successfully implement the Positive Behaviour Plan(PBP), if required
• Medical Procedures – such as Catheter, Tube feeding, Feeding and swallowing support, or diabetic monitoring
• Able to understand, implement and support modified curriculum
• Able to work with and support students with Autism or complex medical needs
• Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
• Physical ability to lift and move students
• Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision
