Job summary

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is seeking a full-time Educational Assistant in ECS to support students across cognition, communication, physical and social development. The role involves implementing teacher-directed programming and collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team to achieve learning goals.

The successful candidate will assist with behaviour management, use adaptive technologies, and provide safe supervision while following health and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Support students' growth in cognition, communication, physical and social development; implement teacher-directed programming.
• Collaborate with teachers, CST and a multi-disciplinary team to support learning.
• Complete student or safety documentation as directed by supervisor; implement specialist strategies (OT/PT/SLP) to reach goals.
• Apply behaviour management and educational strategies to facilitate learning and safe activities.
• Use adaptive and learning technologies and devices, including communication aids, in classroom settings.
• Provide supervision and assist with indoor/outdoor activities, ensuring health and safety requirements are followed.

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is looking for a full-time Educational Assistant in ECS.

Requirements:

• Support students' growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development
• Support and/or implement teacher directed programming
• Work collaborative under guidance of teacher, CST and members of a multi-disciplinary team
• Complete student or safety documentation, if directed by supervisor
• Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc) strategies to achieve required goals
• Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learning
• Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school specific behaviour strategies
• Observe student behaviour with focus on achieving positive behavioural/educational outcomes and mitigate/prevent negative ones
• Provide high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes
• Work and play at student's physical level of their activities
• Provide support in use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs, including for speech and non-verbal communication
• Medical Procedures - including, but not limited to, Catheter, Tube feeding, Feeding and swallowing support, toileting routines or diabetic monitoring may be required
• Able to understand, implement and support modified curriculum
• Able to work with and support students with Autism or complex medical needs
• Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
• Physical ability to lift and move students
• Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision
• Follow all relevant health and safety requirements as directed by supervisor
