Job summary

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is seeking a half-time Educational Assistant (EA 2) for ECS at Good Shepherd. Start ASAP. Closing date Sept 15, 2026.

Hours: 12.5–15.5 per week. The successful candidate will support students’ growth in cognition, communication, physical and social development and assist with teacher-directed programming. You will collaborate with the teacher and multidisciplinary team, and apply specialist strategies to achieve goals.

Qualifications

• Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma.
• Experience or ability to support cognition, communication, physical and social development.
• Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Check may be required.

Responsibilities

• Support students' growth in cognition, communication, physical and social development.
• Implement teacher-directed programming.
• Work collaboratively under guidance of teacher, CST and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc) strategies to achieve required goals.
• Able to work with student to implement and support literacy/numeracy.
• Toileting routines if required.
• Communicate effectively with students using age-appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school-specific behaviour strategies.
• Work and play at student's physical level of their activities.
• Swim program, if required.
• Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe.
• Physical ability to lift and move students.
• Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision.

Employee is expected to work with behaviours related/associated with conduct, obsessive/compulsive, trauma and stress related, severe chronic depressive, feeding and/or eating disorders etc. Other behaviours related to ADHD, emotional/behavioural, learning and speech & language-related disabilities, etc may be encountered.
