Job summary

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is seeking a term full-time Educational Assistant in ECS. Location is Saint Kateri Catholic School with 25-31 hours per week. Start ASAP with a closing date of 15 September 2026.

The role involves supporting student growth across cognition, communication, physical and social development, and collaborating with teachers and multidisciplinary teams. A Criminal Reference Check is required.

Qualifications

• Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma is required.
• May need SMG training for safe interventions (similar to NVCI).

Responsibilities

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is looking for a term full-time Educational Assistant in ECS.

Qualifications

Requirements

• Support students' growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development
• Support and/or implement teacher directed programming
• Work collaborative under guidance of teacher, CST and members of a multi-disciplinary team
• Complete student or safety documentation, if directed by supervisor
• Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc) strategies to achieve required goals
• Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learning
• Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school specific behaviour strategies
• Observe student behaviour with focus on achieving positive behavioural/educational outcomes and mitigate/prevent negative ones
• Provide high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes
• Work and play at student's physical level of their activities
• Provide support in use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs, including for speech and non-verbal communication
• Successfully implement the Positive Behaviour Plan(PBP), if required
• Swim program, able to swim in 50 meters, level 1 and 2
• Medical Procedures – including, but not limited to, Catheter, Tube feeding, Feeding and swallowing support, toileting routines or diabetic monitoring may be required
• Able to understand, implement and support modified curriculum
• Able to work with and support students with Autism or complex medical needs
• Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
• Physical ability to lift and move students
• Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision
• Follow all relevant health and safety requirements as directed by supervisor
