Job summary

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is seeking an Educational Assistant for the Independent Living Program at Father Beauregard School in Fort McMurray. The position is full-time with a weekly schedule of 25–31 hours, starting ASAP and closing September 15, 2026.

Responsibilities include supporting cognitive, communication, physical and social development, implementing teacher-directed programming, and collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma.
• NVCI Level A&B may be required.
• Valid First Aid Level C with CPR.
• Able to Swim in depths up to 50 meters.

Responsibilities

• Support students' growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development.
• Support and/or implement teacher directed programming.
• Work collaboratively under guidance of teacher, CST and members of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc) strategies to achieve required goals.
• Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learning.
• Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school specific behaviour strategies.
• Observe student behaviour with focus on achieving positive behavioural/educational outcomes and mitigate/prevent negative ones.
• Provide high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes.
• Work and play at student's physical level of their activities.
• Provide support in use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs.
• Successfully implement the Positive Behaviour Plan(PBP), if required.
• Medical Procedures – such as Catheter, Tube feeding, Feeding and swallowing support, toileting, or diabetic monitoring may be required.
• Able to understand, implement and support modified curriculum.
• Able to work with and support students with Autism or complex medical needs
• Able to work with students with emotional, behavioural or other disabilities
• Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
• Physical ability to lift and move students
• Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision
