Job summary

CRD invites applications for a Skate Instructor at SEAPARC Community Recreation. The role plans and teaches skating lessons, supervises public skates, and runs various on-ice programs. It requires delivering safe, engaging instruction to all ages and abilities and coordinating with fellow instructors.

The position is auxiliary as needed with shifts including days, evenings, and weekends. Minimum qualifications include a Recreational Skate Instructor Course and related experience; a Criminal

Qualifications

  • Ability to teach hockey/skating to children and adults.
  • Safety-minded approach with attention to supervision.
  • Ability to follow planned lessons and adapt to groups.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a friendly, safe atmosphere for all visitors to the recreation center and maintain good customer service.
  • Create and implement lesson plans and program schedules.
  • Instruct children and adults of all ages and abilities to skate and play hockey.
  • Work cohesively with other instructors in group settings.
  • Follow all CRD policies, procedures and standards.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Rate of Pay:$21.19 - $21.19 per hour plus 15% in lieu of benefits

Hours of Work:Varies - as and when needed, including days, evenings and weekends

Posting Date: August 18, 2026

Closing Date: Review of applications will begin September 8, 2026 but competition will remain open until filled.

This position is responsible for planning and teaching skate lessons, supervising public skates and teaching various on-ice programs.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Establish a friendly, safe atmosphere for all visitors to the recreation centerand maintain good customer service
  • Create and implement lessons plans and program schedules
  • Instruct children and adults of all ages and abilities, to skate and play hockey
  • Work cohesively with other instructors in group settings
  • Follows all policies, procedures and standards of the CRD.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Additional Information
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts, including weekdays, weekends, holidays, days and evenings, and on an as-and-when-required basis.

  • Acceptable criminal record check. The applicant/incumbent is required to undergo a criminal record check to work in this position and to report to their supervisor if any criminal charges are laid against them that may be related to their employment.
