Job summary

City of Richmond Hill is seeking a skating instructor to plan and deliver age-appropriate ice skating programs while ensuring safety and participant engagement. You will work with staff and volunteers, prepare daily lesson plans, and maintain clear records and communication.

The role requires first aid/CPR-C certification, a minimum age of 15, and at least one year of relevant experience. A flexible schedule including evenings and weekends may be needed.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver instructional ice skating programs to participants.
  • Implement activities and supervise participants and volunteers.
  • Ensure participant safety and engagement throughout the program.
  • Plan daily lesson plans and organize classes accordingly.
  • Work with volunteers and assign responsibilities as needed.
  • Prepare supplies/equipment lists and communicate needs to the Program Coordinator.
  • Complete necessary paperwork (attendance, hours, etc.) in a timely manner.
  • Maintain positive public relations and professional appearance.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.

Reporting to the Program Coordinator, Skating Instructors will be responsible for planning and delivering instructional ice skating programs to participants. They will be directly involved in the implementation and delivery of age-appropriate activities, ensure participant safety and engagement, follow policies and procedures, and work effectively with all staff.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Implement and actively supervise in planned activities.
  • Ensure there are a variety of activities in the program related to the type of activity being taught.
  • Plan and organize all classes with daily lesson plans.
  • Work with volunteers to ensure they are included in the programs and have various responsibilities.
  • Ensure participant safety and security throughout the program
  • Communicate and interact with participants and make everyone feel welcome
  • Report to work prior to the program start time in order to ensure the program is ready to start on time. Stay after the program end time, if needed, in order to clean up and answer participant questions
  • Assist in finding class coverage if unable to teach assigned class.
  • Provide a list of supplies/equipment and set up needs required for the program to the Program Coordinator
  • Supervise all aspects of the program including participants and volunteers.
  • Complete and submit all necessary paperwork in a timely manner (e.g. attendance records, drop in sheets, list of hours worked, etc.
  • Ensure the safety of participants, facilities and equipment at all times.
  • Assist the Program Coordinator with delivering program evaluations to participants
  • With the assistance of the integration team, modify activities to ensure participants with disabilities are able to participate in programs and be fully integrated into the program setting.
  • Wear assigned uniform/name tag
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and training sessions prior to, during and outside regular programming hours.
  • Maintain excellent public relations at all times.
  • Maintain good communication with staff and volunteers, facility users, and the Program Coordinator.
  • Maintain all current certifications and send updated copies to your supervisor
  • Understand and implement the policies and procedures of the Facility(s), and of the Community Services Department.
  • Represent the City of Richmond Hill in a cooperative, organized, enthusiastic and well-groomed manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification
  • Minimum age of 15 years.
  • Minimum 1 year experience related to the type of activity being taught.
