Job summary

The Capital Regional District is seeking a Skate Instructor to plan and teach skate lessons, supervise public skates and run on-ice programs. The role involves creating lesson plans and running programs for all ages and abilities.

Applicants must be able to teach hockey/skating, maintain safety, and work with other instructors in a team setting. Shifts vary including days, evenings and weekends; wage is CAD 21.19 per hour plus 15% in lieu of benefits.

Qualifications

  • Recreational Skate Instructor Course is required.
  • Some directly related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a friendly, safe atmosphere for visitors to the recreation center and maintain good customer service.
  • Create and implement lesson plans and program schedules.
  • Instruct children and adults of all ages and abilities to skate and play hockey.
  • Work cohesively with other instructors in group settings.
  • Maintain safe work practices.
  • Follow all CRD policies, procedures and standards.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • Rate of Pay: $21.19 - $21.19 per hour plus 15% in lieu of benefits
  • Hours of Work: Varies - as and when needed, including days, evenings and weekends

Summary

This position is responsible for planning and teaching skate lessons, supervising public skates and teaching various on-ice programs.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Establish a friendly, safe atmosphere for all visitors to the recreation center and maintain good customer service
  • Create and implement lessons plans and program schedules
  • Instruct children and adults of all ages and abilities, to skate and play hockey
  • Work cohesively with other instructors in group settings
  • Maintain safe work practices
  • Follows all policies, procedures and standards of the CRD.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Additional Information
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts, including weekdays, weekends, holidays, days and evenings, and on an as-and-when-required basis.

  • Acceptable criminal record check. The applicant/incumbent is required to undergo a criminal record check to work in this position and to report to their supervisor if any criminal charges are laid against them that may be related to their employment.
