Job summary

Responsibilities

• Support students' growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development
• Support and/or implement teacher directed programming
• Work collaboratively under guidance of teacher, CST and members of a multi-disciplinary team
• Complete student or safety documentation as directed
• Implement specialist strategies to achieve goals
• Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate learning
• Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate reinforcements
• Observe student behaviour to promote positive outcomes
• Provide structure to facilitate learning outcomes
• Work with students at their physical level during activities
• Support use of adaptive and learning technologies including speech and non-verbal communication
• Possibly participate in Positive Behaviour Plan
• Swim program – able to swim 50 meters, level 1 and 2
• Medical procedures support may be required
• Understand and support modified curriculum
• Work with students with autism or complex medical needs
• Physically assist and transfer students as needed

• May be required to take SMG training for safe interventions (similar to NVCI)
• Valid First Aid Level 3 with CPR
• Community Programming (Access to vehicle and valid driver's license)
• Swim Program – able to swim regularily

Requirements:

• Support students' growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development
• Support and/or implement teacher directed programming
• Work collaborative under guidance of teacher, CST and members of a multi-disciplinary team
• Complete student or safety documentation, if directed by supervisor
• Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc) strategies to achieve required goals
• Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learning
• Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school specific behaviour strategies
• Observe student behaviour with focus on achieving positive behavioural/educational outcomes and mitigate/prevent negative ones
• Provide high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes
• Work and play at student's physical level of their activities
• Provide support in use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs, including for speech and non-verbal communication
• Successfully implement the Positive Behaviour Plan(PBP), if required
• Swim program, able to swim in 50 meters, level 1 and 2
• Medical Procedures – including, but not limited to, Catheter, Tube feeding, Feeding and swallowing support, toileting routines or diabetic monitoring may be required
• Able to understand, implement and support modified curriculum
• Able to work with and support students with Autism or complex medical needs
