Job summary

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is seeking a full-time Educational Assistant (EA 4) for the Independent Living Program at Holy Trinity. The incumbent will support student growth across cognition, communication, physical and social development, and assist with teacher-directed programming.

The role requires an Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma, SMG training, First Aid/CPR level C, and the ability to swim regularly. A Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Check are required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Support students' growth in cognition, communication, physical and social development.
• Support and/or implement teacher-directed programming.
• Work collaboratively under guidance of teacher, CST and multi-disciplinary team.
• Complete student or safety documentation as directed by supervisor.
• Implement specialist strategies (OT/PT/SLP) to achieve goals.
• Apply behaviour management and educational strategies to facilitate learning.
• Observe student behaviour to promote positive outcomes and mitigate issues.
• Provide high level structure to complete learning outcomes.
• Use adaptive and learning technologies with various devices and programs.
• Follow the Positive Behaviour Plan when required.
• Supervise students indoors and outdoors as directed.

• Support students' growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development
• Support and/or implement teacher directed programming
• Work collaborative under guidance of teacher, CST and members of a multi-disciplinary team
• Complete student or safety documentation, if directed by supervisor
• Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc) strategies to achieve required goals
• Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learningCommunicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school specific behaviour strategies
• Observe student behaviour with focus on achieving positive behavioural/educational outcomes and mitigate/prevent negative ones
• Provide high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes
• Work and play at student's physical level of their activities
• Provide support in use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs, including for speech and non-verbal communication
• Successfully implement the Positive Behaviour Plan(PBP), if required
• Swim program, able to swim in 50 meters, level 1 and 2
• Medical Procedures – including, but not limited to, Catheter, Tube feeding, Feeding and swallowing support, toileting routines or diabetic monitoring may be required
• Able to understand, implement and support modified curriculum
• Able to work with and support students with Autism or complex medical needs
• Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
• Physical ability to lift and move students
• Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision
• Follow all relevant health and safety requirements as directed by supervisor

Employee is expected to work with behaviours related/associated with conduct, obsessive/compulsive, trauma and stress related, severe chronic depressive, feeding and/or eating disorders etc. Other behaviours related to ADHD, emotional/behavioural, learning and speech & language-related disabilities, etc may be encountered.
