Job summary

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is seeking a full-time Educational Assistant to support students in Grades 1–6 at Saint Gabriel Catholic School. The position requires an Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma, with SMG training possibly required for safe interventions.

You will support cognition, communication, physical and social development, implement teacher-directed programming, and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Support students' growth in cognition, communication, physical and social development.
• Assist and/or implement teacher-directed programming.
• Collaborate with teacher, CST and multi-disciplinary team.
• Complete student or safety documentation as directed.
• Implement strategies from therapists (OT, PT, SLP) to meet goals.
• Apply behaviour management and educational strategies to facilitate learning.
• Communicate with students using age-appropriate positive reinforcement.
• Observe behaviour to promote positive outcomes and prevent issues.
• Provide structure to complete learning outcomes.
• Assist students at their activity level and support adaptive/learning technologies.
• Follow the Positive Behaviour Plan if required.
• Provide supervision during indoor and outdoor activities.
• Follow health and safety requirements.

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is looking for a full-time Educational Assistant in Grades 1-6.

Qualifications:

• May be required to take SMG training for safe interventions (similar to NVCI)

Requirements:

• Support students' growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development
• Support and/or implement teacher directed programming
• Work collaborative under guidance of teacher, CST and members of a multi-disciplinary team
• Complete student or safety documentation, if directed by supervisor
• Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc) strategies to achieve required goals
• Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learning
• Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school specific behaviour strategies
• Observe student behaviour with focus on achieving positive behavioural/educational outcomes and mitigate/prevent negative ones
• Provide high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes
• Work and play at student's physical level of their activities
• Provide support in use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs, including for speech and non-verbal communication
• Successfully implement the Positive Behaviour Plan(PBP), if required
• Swim program, able to swim in 50 meters, level 1 and 2
• Medical Procedures – including, but not limited to, Catheter, Tube feeding, Feeding and swallowing support, toileting routines or diabetic monitoring may be required
• Able to understand, implement and support modified curriculum
• Able to work with and support students with Autism or complex medical needs
• Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
• Physical ability to lift and move students
• Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision
• Follow all relevant health and safety requirements as directed by supervisor
