Job summary

Fort McMurray Catholic School Division is seeking an Educational Assistant to work with elementary students in grades 1–6 at St. Martha.

The role involves supporting cognition, communication, physical and social development, and assisting with teacher-directed programming. Candidate will collaborate with teachers and the multi-disciplinary team, apply specialist strategies as needed, and maintain positive behaviour supports.

Qualifications

• Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma is required.
• NVCI Level A&B may be required.
• Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Check required.
• Proficiency with e-mail, Internet and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Support students' growth in cognition, communication, physical and social development.
• Support and/or implement teacher directed programming.
• Work collaboratively under guidance of teacher, CST and a multi-disciplinary team.
• Implement specialist strategies (OT, PT, SLP) to achieve goals.
• Implement behaviour management and educational strategies to facilitate learning.
• Communicate effectively with students using age-appropriate reinforcement and school behaviour strategies.
• Observe student behaviour to promote positive outcomes and mitigate negatives.
• Provide structure to facilitate completion of learning outcomes.
• Work and play at the student’s physical level during activities.
• Support use of adaptive learning technologies and devices.
• Comply with the Positive Behaviour Plan (PBP) if required.
• Medical procedures support (catheter, feeding, diabetic monitoring) if required.
• Understand, implement and support modified curriculum.
• Work with students with Autism or complex medical needs.
• Physically assist/transfer students as needed.
• Provide school-directed indoor and outdoor supervision.
• Swim program participation may be required.
