Job summary

Harsco Environmental’s Site Manager in Training (SMIT) program offers a structured two-year development path across Safety, Maintenance, Operations, Finance, and Customer Service. The program includes mentorship and formal training, with assignments across Ontario and Quebec, and requires fluent English and French for effective communication.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of operational experience in a relevant field (e.g., mobile equipment, plant operations)
• Bachelor’s degree, college diploma, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
• Bilingual in English and French (spoken and written)
• Strong interest in site leadership and operational excellence
• Demonstrated commitment to safety and compliance
• Effective communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
• Willingness and ability to travel between sites located in Ontario and Quebec
• Willingness to relocate within Ontario or Quebec upon successful completion of the program, if required
• Familiarity with enterprise systems and reporting tools is a plus

Responsibilities

• Rotate through core site functions to understand workflows, compliance requirements, and performance metrics.
• Learn and apply safety protocols, environmental standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Shadow site managers and supervisors to develop skills in team coordination, conflict resolution, and performance management.
• Participate in customer meetings and service reviews to understand expectations and relationship management.
• Assist in budget planning, cost tracking, and capital expenditure analysis.
• Support site-level initiatives including equipment upgrades, process improvements, and training rollouts.
• Attend internal and external training programs focused on leadership, communication, and strategic thinking.
