Job summary

Greater Edmonton Foundation is seeking a skilled Kitchen Supervisor for our seniors housing operations in Edmonton. You will oversee kitchen and dining room activities, supervise staff, plan menus in line with Canada Food Guide, and manage budgets while ensuring quality and safety.

This full-time day role requires a Red Seal certificate, Food Safe, and at least five years of supervisory culinary experience.

Qualifications

  • Alberta recognized Journeyman Certificate in cooking (Red Seal).
  • Minimum of 5 years in supervisory culinary role.
  • Food Safe Certification.
  • Knowledge of food production, quality control, and inventory management.
  • Experience in a commercial kitchen environment and with seniors preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and kitchen management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee kitchen and dining room operations with supervision and coaching.
  • Plan balanced menus per Canada Food Guide and manage shopping within budget.
  • Assist in events and cook main meals.
  • Handle admin duties: performance reviews, scheduling, timesheets, invoicing, inventory.
  • Contribute to health and safety program compliance.
  • Gather resident feedback and improve dining offerings.
  • Oversee supplies, equipment, inventory and storage.
  • Ensure meal presentation, portioning and quality control.
  • Maintain kitchen and dining cleanliness per health and safety standards.
  • Perform other site duties as needed.

GEF Seniors Housing is the largest provider of affordable supportive living residences for low to moderate income seniors in Alberta. Details: Full Time, Days, 37.50 hours per week, 9:30AM to 5:30PM, 3 week rotational schedule

Pay Scale: $35.28 - $44.05 per hour

Location: At any of our GEF lodge locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee kitchen and dining room operations, including supervision, training, and coaching of staff.
  • Plan balanced menus, ensuring compliance with the Canada Food Guide, and order groceries and kitchen-related purchases within a set budget.
  • Assist in planning special events and cooking main meals.
  • Perform administrative duties, including performance evaluations, scheduling, submitting timesheets, invoice approval, and monthly inventory management.
  • Contribute to health and safety program administration, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Foster positive dining experiences by gathering feedback from residents and implementing improvements to food offerings.
  • Oversee food supplies, equipment, and inventory management, ensuring proper food storage and cost‑effective practices.
  • Ensure proper meal presentation, portioning, and maintain high quality control standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness in kitchen and dining areas, ensuring compliance with health regulations and safety standards.
  • Perform other site‑specific duties as required to ensure smooth kitchen and dining room operations.

Experience/Education Preferences:

  • Alberta recognized Journeyman Certificate in cooking. (Red Seal is required)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a supervisory culinary role is required.
  • Food Safe Certification required.
  • Knowledge of food production, quality control, and inventory management systems.
  • Experience in a commercial kitchen environment and with seniors preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and kitchen management systems.

Other Requirements:

  • Strong customer service skills, including respectful interaction with residents, families, staff, and contractors.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and work under pressure.
  • Availability to work weekends and public holidays as needed.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs., perform repetitive motion tasks, and stand/walk for extended periods.
