Job summary

WestJet is seeking a Simulator Technician in Calgary to maintain and repair all WestJet training devices, ensuring Transport Canada qualification standards are met while keeping a safe, clean work environment.

You will perform preventive maintenance, diagnose issues, document activities, and coordinate parts. The role requires a technical post-secondary degree and experience with simulators; CAE, FlightSafety or L3 experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a relevant technical post-secondary degree is required.
  • Experience in simulator maintenance or related technical work is an asset.
  • Experience with CAE, FlightSafety or L3 is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work effectively with strong communication and listening skills
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks and inspections on all Training Devices
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware and software on Training Devices
  • Monitor maintenance practices and deficiencies for timely resolutions
  • Record issues and daily activities accurately

Job description

Simulator Technician

Responsible for safely providing maintenance and repair to all WestJet Training Devices. A Simulator Technician ensures that all Training Devices meet or exceed Transport Canada qualification standards while maintaining a safe and clean working environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work effectively with strong communication and listening skills
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks and inspections on all Training Devices
  • Responsible for problem solving, diagnosing, debugging and troubleshooting of both hardware and software problems on all Training Devices
  • Monitor maintenance practices, procedures and open deficiencies to ensure timely resolutions
  • Complete accurate and detailed recordings of issues and daily activities
  • Identify, research and submit requests for required parts
  • Complete daily operational testing of Training Devices
  • Must be able to complete the WestJet Flight Simulator Apprenticeship program within the required time lines
  • Develop strong, open and honest working relationships
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Experience & Qualifications
  • Completion of a relevant technical post-secondary degree is a requirement
  • Experience in simulator maintenance and repair or equivalent technical work experience is an asset
  • CAE, Flight Safety and L3 experience is an asset
  • Must possess excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Intermediate ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams
  • Intermediate knowledge of computers, operating systems and software (Unix, AIX, CentOS, Windows XP, Windows 2000, MS Office)
  • Basic knowledge of aircraft systems, avionics and theory of flight
  • Basic knowledge of computer networking including Ethernet, 1394 (FireWire), USB, PCI busses, virtual LAN drives, DHCP, and terminal services
  • Basic knowledge of visual projection systems
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulic theory and systems
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical and electro-mechanical theory
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work day and night shifts 24h/7d/365y
  • Able to bend, kneel, crawl, stoop, and climb repetitively
