Job summary

CAE Inc. is seeking a Flight Simulator Technician IV for the CAE Training Center in Richmond, BC. This on-call, part-time position involves performing preventative and corrective maintenance on multiple flight simulators and related devices, with real-time user support and hands-on diagnostics.

You will work across C/Unix and Windows environments, perform pre-flight tests, update documentation, and lead projects to ensure smooth operations at the training center.

Qualifications

  • 2-year technical degree or equivalent related training.
  • 7 years direct simulator experience with at least 5 years relative to simulators per assigned location.
  • Advanced troubleshooting to system level on multiple types of simulators.
  • Expert level experience in diagnostics on multiple simulators.
  • Expert skills in use of test equipment and in soldering/circuit board repair.

Responsibilities

  • Provide real‑time phone support to address technical issues on training center flight simulators.

  • Execute recurring scheduled preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Perform aircraft validation tests (QTG) and create/restore system/computer disk backups.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex simulator deficiencies in a timely manner.
  • Identify and replace defective simulator components.
  • Validate snag fixes directly on the simulator device.
  • Maintain and document configuration control of both software and hardware elements.
  • Read and interpret electrical and electro‑mechanical drawings and design documents.
  • Apply aircraft/systems knowledge to execute hands‑on fixes on Full Flight Simulators.

Job description

Flight Simulator Technician IV

As part of the Technical Services department within CAE’s Civil Training and Services division, you will perform all preventative and corrective maintenance tasks on several CAE and non-CAE flight simulators and associated devices at the CAE Training Center in Richmond, BC. This is a part-time/on-call role as a Flight Simulator Technician IV.

The incumbent will support the following roles and responsibilities:

  • Provide real‑time phone support to address technical issues on training center flight simulators.
  • Prepare the simulator for customer training, including performing pre‑flight tests.
  • Execute recurring scheduled preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Perform aircraft validation tests (QTG) and create/restore system/computer disk backups.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex simulator deficiencies in a timely manner.
  • Identify and replace defective simulator components.
  • Validate snag fixes directly on the simulator device.
  • Maintain and document configuration control of both software and hardware elements.
  • Work within C/Unix and Windows environments to step through code modules, identify root causes, and propose strong leads and hypotheses for resolution.
  • Read and interpret electrical and electro‑mechanical drawings and design documents.
  • Define technical problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Apply aircraft/systems knowledge to execute hands‑on fixes on Full Flight Simulators.
  • Log all work regularly, objectively, and formally in a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
  • Update technical documentation and procedures when required.
  • Participate in technical training courses and on‑the‑job learning.
  • Lead and execute projects to improve and ensure smooth operations of the training center.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 2-year technical degree or equivalent related training.
  • 7 years direct simulator experience with at least 5 years relative to simulators per assigned location.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Advanced experience in troubleshooting to system level on multiple types of simulators.
  • Expert level experience in the use and interpretation of diagnostics available on multiple types of simulators.
  • Expert skills in the operation of test equipment.
  • Expert skills in soldering and circuit board repair.
  • Advanced knowledge of PCs and MS-Office tools and suite.
  • Highly motivated in customer support and attention to detail.
Working Conditions
  • Ability to sit, stand and walk for prolonged periods of time up to 8-10 hours per day.
  • Ability to pick up 25 lbs or more.
  • Stooping, squatting may be required.
  • Able to repair equipment in various spaces.

Base Pay Range

Pay range rate: $37.55 - $56.30 per hr
