Job summary

Portland Tractor Inc. in Grande Prairie, Alberta, is seeking a skilled Shop Technician (Heavy Equipment Mechanic) to perform repairs, rebuilds, and preventative maintenance on heavy equipment for our loyal customers.

The role requires diagnosing, disassembling, inspecting, repairing, assembling, and testing components with minimal supervision. You will safely operate cranes and shop equipment, document repairs, and communicate progress to management.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience repairing heavy equipment or diesel equipment.
  • Experience with Caterpillar equipment strongly preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience performing complete equipment and component rebuilds.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to safely operate shop equipment including overhead cranes, presses, lifting devices, and power tools.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with team members.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to safety.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnosing, disassembling, inspecting, repairing, assembling, and testing heavy equipment components.
  • Completing assigned work accurately, safely, and within established production schedules with minimal supervision.
  • Safely using overhead cranes, rigging equipment, lifting devices, presses, jacks, hammers, and other shop equipment to remove, transport, and install components.
  • Documenting repairs and communicating job progress, issues, and status to management.
  • Assisting with troubleshooting and problem-solving during the rebuild process.
  • Cross-training in other departments and perform additional duties or job functions as needed.

The Opportunity

Portland Tractor Inc. is looking for a mechanically skilled Shop Technician (Heavy Equipment Mechanic) to join our team in Grande Prairie, Alberta. As the Shop Technician, you will be responsible for completing a variety of heavy equipment repair tasks required by our loyal customers.

As a Shop Technician, your primary responsibilities include:

  • Diagnosing, disassembling, inspecting, repairing, assembling, and testing heavy equipment components
  • Completing assigned work accurately, safely, and within established production schedules with minimal supervision
  • Safely using overhead cranes, rigging equipment, lifting devices, presses, jacks, hammers, and other shop equipment to remove, transport, and install components

Required Skills & Qualifications

The base pay range for this role is: $47.00 to $60.00 per hour, depending on exprience.

This is an onsite role based in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
