Job summary

Portland Tractor Inc. in Grande Prairie, Alberta is seeking a mechanically skilled Shop Technician (Heavy Equipment Mechanic) to repair and rebuild heavy equipment for our loyal customers. This onsite role offers a hands-on environment.

You will diagnose, disassemble, inspect, repair, assemble, and test components, with emphasis on Caterpillar equipment where possible. A strong focus on safety, quality, and independent work while collaborating with the team.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience repairing heavy equipment or diesel equipment.
• Experience with Caterpillar equipment strongly preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with experience performing complete equipment and component rebuilds.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to safely operate shop equipment including overhead cranes, presses, lifting devices, and power tools.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with team members.
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to safety.
• High school diploma or GED
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Diagnosing, disassembling, inspecting, repairing, assembling, and testing heavy equipment components
• Completing assigned work accurately, safely, and within established production schedules with minimal supervision
• Safely using overhead cranes, rigging equipment, lifting devices, presses, jacks, hammers, and other shop equipment to remove, transport, and install components
• Documenting repairs and communicating job progress, issues, and status to management
• Assisting with troubleshooting and problem-solving during the rebuild process
• Cross-training in other departments and perform additional duties or job functions as needed

The Opportunity

Portland Tractor Inc. is looking for a mechanically skilled Shop Technician (Heavy Equipment Mechanic) to join our team in Grande Prairie, Alberta. As the Shop Technician, you will be responsible for completing a variety of heavy equipment repair tasks required by our loyal customers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The base pay range for this role is: $47.00 to $60.00 per hour, depending on exprience.

This is an onsite role based in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
